Yorkie Talker | Testicles Hi, our puppy is 6 months old and his testicles still haven't dropped, is this normal? I do have a vet appointment next week but thought I would ask this forum. Thank you |

| Not normal. By 4 months or earlier is normal. Rarely will descend after 6 months. There is a good chance they are right beyond the scrotum and isn't that big of a deal as long as you remove them. I think if neither has descended they may be deeper in the abdomen. An ultrasound will be able to locate them. No matter where they are I think it 's a minor complication during the neuter. Recommendations are to neuter and not pass this trait to future generations. |

| I just checked my 16 week old boys and they are descended but very tiny. I'm wondering if they would be easily found on an ultrasound. They are only about the size of those pins with balls on the end. Mine are just hitting 2 pounds so hopefully your's is bigger and won't need exploratory incisions. |

| No it's not normal and I would go ahead and have him neutered. The vet might have to do a little exploring to find them unless they can feel where they are but that can be a bit harder with the small dogs. Vets normally know where to look and feel though.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It's not uncommon for testes not to drop - it just happens with some dogs. This means that when the neuter is done - it will more like a spay - meaning, it will be an abdominal surgery bc the vet will have to in and *find* the testicles. Bc of this, PLEASE make sure you go home w/ plenty of pain meds for the abdominal surgery - AND a plan for what to do if pain is not managed properly.

| If she was breeding with a sire with only one testicle descended than she should have known it is a possibility. If she kept the puppy until 12 weeks then she may have known. It is a genetic condition and your breeder should pay for the additional costs associated with the neuter if your contract has a congenital clause. I know most contracts offer a return of the puppy for congential issues and not payment of vet bills, but in this case i would think they would pay the extra $100. |

| All it will do is be more like a spay then a neuter.
