| Diet Change and Vomitting I changed my yorkie's (Max) food about 10 days ago. We went from Pure Balance Grain Free Formula to Nutro Small Breed Senior food (he is 11). He has thrown up once a day since I changed his food. I neglected to do a slow change since he was completely out of food. Should I go back and do a slow change or should I just stick with Nutro until he gets used to it? His energy level has not changed nor has his overall demeanor. He gets plenty of water and still LOVES his treats. This yorkie mom is worried about her little guy! |

| I would be inclined to switch back to his previous food. My Max had this problem once, vomiting when I changed to a food that he was fine with when he was younger. When I went back to his regular food, he was fine again. Max ate Nutro for a couple months when he was a pup. Then a whole bunch of consumer complaints came out about the company. You can google to read the complaints. I decided to avoid Nutro. Is there a reason you wanted to change his food?

As long as your dog doesn't have any health issues, I would stick with the food that has been working for him. That is my plan for my boys.

| Senior food is not necessary it's mostly just a marketing gimmick. I would switch back.

| 2 yr old yorkie vomiting I have been reading about IBD and I really can only say my little one is just vomiting. I have been writing down how often and when. She has never done this before, however it is nearly every day, and I am going in to have her checked out soon. I just needed to know if anyone has had this problem. I have her on Natures Variety grain free chicken and raw only in the morning. She is small and other than that she is normal. Does not act sick at all. I thought it was Gerd at first and so I have her on Pepcid Id twice a day. |

And are you sure it's vomiting (hacking first, works up to vomiting) and not regurgitating (no hacking, no warning - just comes up and out, fast)...? If regurg, then I'd still be thinking about GERD and/or sphincter issues in the throat. So her poos are totally normal then...?

| I have a senior dog that used to vomit about every 3 days no matter what I fed him. a few months ago I switched him to a dry food called wellness tru food and he loves it and hasn't vomited since. you might try that. They carry it at Petmart and also at Chewy.com.

| Whenever I change her diet she would vomit so I was forced to get her back to old diet. She's on a special diet since 3 years old. |

| When ever I change my twos diet I do a gradual change over as I find a sudden swap of any food or treats causes stomach upset and runny bums. I start by adding 25% new food to their normal dinner. If all is okay and they don't have a reaction I leave it like that for 4-5 days, then up the new food by 25%😤 Again so it's 50-50. And watch stools. Again if alls okay after a few days we do 75% new to 25% old. We just cannot switch one food for another here without upsetting them. Maybe go back to the old food, get him settle lad agsin then try to slowly add some to see what happens? |

| Digestive problems Are Yorkies generally pre disposed to digestive problems? My little 5 yr old Yorkie has been having tummy problems for the last several months. We recently moved and I took her to a new vet because she was due for her rabies vaccine. The new vet gave her several vaccines that day and when I brought her home she became very ill. She woke up the next day and had bloody diarrhea and was vomiting blood. I brought her back into the vet who told me that she was dehydrated and ran some sort of test telling me she had pancreatitis. She told me I had to put her on a special diet of hills science diet ID food for the rest of her life. Previously she had been on a grain free natural holistic dog food and was doing fine until the vaccines. She continued to vomit on the hills science diet food but it was like a yellow phlegm that she vomits up. I then took her back to her old vet which was an hour and a half drive to get a second opinion. The old vet ran pancreatic enzymes and said she did not have pancreatitis and that all her blood work was fine. She told me To put her back on her old diet of a limited ingredient grain free food. She is now on basic instinct limited ingredient grain free food for small breed dogs and boiled chicken only. She still periodically vomits the yellow phlegm stuff. I would say about once a week. I just wonder if she's ever going to be normal again and if anyone else has had these problems with their Yorkie? my husband is convinced the vaccines caused this ongoing problem. |

| Vomiting yellow generally means hunger vomits so I would feed a little more food and if you have tummy issues I'd feed plain cooked chicken with some good dog specific probiotic to see if that helps with upset tummies. I always keep slippery elm bark in the house for both me and the dogs in case of upset tums. |
