I wouldn't worry about using a senior food. If I understand correctly, the original thinking behind senior foods was that older dogs require lower protein. New studies have concluded that isn't true. Some sources I've read believe 'senior' food is purely a marketing strategy by manufacturers.

As long as your dog doesn't have any health issues, I would stick with the food that has been working for him. That is my plan for my boys.
