Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Eye discharge Crystal and I walk / run (her) many miles on the fine sand beaches in front of our home. I dispelled red-eye discharge with 'Angels Eyes' about this time last year. However she now appears to be suffering from a small yellow discharge, from both eyes, with grains of sand at the core suggesting irritation. I've only just noticed this and have cleaned her eyes thoroughly with pads (not easy she's very anti). Has anyone had a similar scenario and tried eye drops? |

| I think she needs to go to the vet and get vet prescribed eye drops. The yellow discharge can be an infection or at least it was with a kitten I took to the vet with yellow discharge

| Crystal So sorry that she has goopy eyes. My dog had eye surgery some time ago and I would fear taking him on sand in case some entered the eye. Rather than apply pressure with wipes perhaps you might flush out the eyes well with eyewash. This would hopefully prevent the sand particles from scratching the cornea. The eyewash bottle I get here has a narrow outlet so that the fluid comes out in a stream. My vet eye specialist suggested the flush for eye cleaning rather than eye drops, that tend to just run off without rinsing out the eyes. Also the vet suggested holding the lower lid down while flushing...easier with two people. Hope she gets better soon. :-) Of course if the irritation does not improve soon, I agree with Chachi, a vet exam and treatment is a good idea. Last edited by dottiesyrky; 09-07-2014 at 10:59 AM. |

| Some people use eye drops with good results, but I prefer to use plain tap water drizzled from a cotton ball to rinse the eyes. If that does not stop the yellow discharge, then a visit with the vet. Some drops may cause harm if a scratch or ulcer is present. I would opt for plain saline if you use anything. Max had a lot of eye issues a couple years ago. I discovered that he reacted negatively to plain sterile saline drops with no preservatives. Tap water is what goes in his eyes during a bath, so I decided it can't be too harmful. Normally I would recite the phrase, "don't mess around with the eyes," but I have become experienced enough with my boys to determine when the vet is needed immediately. Hope Crystal's eyes are back to normal by morning.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Thanks everyone, I've not splashed the eyes or entered them in any way, merely removed the goop from the corner with some proper doggy eyes wipes. She's not suffering in any way and to be honest if the wind's in the wrong direction I can suffer this affliction too sometimes, if I forget my Elton John glasses. I had to give them up, as even a policeman came and asked for my autograph last year, when I had the big yellow frames on! (honest trust me I'm a Doctor). |

| Eyes Glad all is well. Like the Elton John's by the way. How about getting Crystal some Doggles?? They are very cute and I am sure the locals would find them amusing too:-) |

| Angle eyes is not FDA approved and it's an antibiotic and can make your dog more resistant against antibiotics so I would not use that. Have you thought about doggles for her so the sand can't get in her eyes? In most cases yellow does mean infection so you might want to have the vet check them.

The Powder takes longer to clear the problem I'm advised, rather than the Drops, but it certainly worked for me after about 3 weeks. I then stopped using it and now only need to start again after 6 months or so, as re-occurrence applies. Some folk seem to give their doggy's a little every day, but I'm sure the dosage would then need increasing to overcome tolerance resistance, so I use it when and as needed. I'll keep a strict watch on the discharge, I'm using 'eye cloth' pads to clean them twice a day. I'll try the 'Doggles', but can see her getting in a real froth, cavorting about like a demented welder, trying to get them off! | |

| If the eye gets cloudy you definitely want to get to a vet it will most likely mean there is a scratch on the cornea
