So sorry that she has goopy eyes. My dog had eye surgery some time ago and I would fear taking him on sand in case some entered the eye.
Rather than apply pressure with wipes perhaps you might flush out the eyes well with eyewash. This would hopefully prevent the sand particles from scratching the cornea. The eyewash bottle I get here has a narrow outlet so that the fluid comes out in a stream. My vet eye specialist suggested the flush for eye cleaning rather than eye drops, that tend to just run off without rinsing out the eyes. Also the vet suggested holding the lower lid down while flushing...easier with two people.
Hope she gets better soon. :-)

Of course if the irritation does not improve soon, I agree with Chachi, a vet exam and treatment is a good idea.
