| Grain free! I was wondering how many of you feed your babies grain free food? Is it really better? I'm feeding misty wellness but wanted to try the core. Have your babies gain weight or have other issues with it? I also free feed her. Really need your input on this thanks

| Opinions on this topic vary widely! I feed my pups both grain-free and grain-inclusive foods. They do perfectly fine on both types...I haven't noticed any differences in terms of body condition/health between the two. Grain-free formulas are not necessarily better (lots of dogs do perfectly well on formulas with rice/oats/whatever) and there isn't really a reason to avoid grains unless your dog has some type of allergy or sensitivity to them (which is not super common from what I understand). A lot of people also assume that grain-free automatically means more protein and more meat but that's not always the case...lots of companies are using plant-based sources to up the protein content of grain-free foods so definitely check the labels. I will say that I used to nitpick ingredient labels but now I'm at the point where if the pups are healthy, doing well on a food (from a company I trust) and have no issues then that's what I feed (regardless of grains or not or "perfect" ingredients). I haven't noticed issues with weight gain between GF vs. non-GF foods but I generally know how many calories the pups eat and adjust amounts accordingly when I switch foods. Just a little side note since you mentioned wanting to try Wellness... Teddy did awesome on the Wellness Core Ocean formula...I think it's a good food and definitely recommend it! |

| I personally don't feel grain free is better unless your dog seems to have issues with them. My dog who I though had issues with grains has been on Royal Canin Yorkshire terrier for months with no issues.

| My dogs tend to do OK on grains, but I like to feed potatoes or peas over grains. I find that the fiber in peas works very well on my two younger males and the older male stopped tolerating rice after many years of it so I have him on white potatoes. They eat home cooked food. I think if your dog tolerates the food you chose then it is not necessary to select grain free just for the sake of it being popular lately. In other words, grains are perfectly fine if your dog does well.

YT Addict | I have always fed my dogs grain free and had excellent results. I just switched my 12 week old puppy over to grain free because he didn't like the bison formula and wasn't eating well. He is doing fantastically and loves the food. I would recommend it. Mine start itching and get the potty trots when eating foods that contain grains, preservatives. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I have always preferred grain-free or low-grain/carb food for dogs rather than high carb food....I think it manages weight better and is more species appropriate.

| I feed mostly grain free, with some exceptions (just nothing with corn or wheat, but rices and oats are ok). Use wellness core kibble/can. So far not so bad. Granted it is puppy formula, so I have to expect it to be a bit richer and fattier. ^^; But my dogs (both pup and adult) seem to do well on it :3
