My dogs tend to do OK on grains, but I like to feed potatoes or peas over grains. I find that the fiber in peas works very well on my two younger males and the older male stopped tolerating rice after many years of it so I have him on white potatoes. They eat home cooked food. I think if your dog tolerates the food you chose then it is not necessary to select grain free just for the sake of it being popular lately. In other words, grains are perfectly fine if your dog does well.
