| Changing dog foods So my pup is a picky eater on it's own, I have to top his foods with something to get him to eat. Does this is mean he doesn't like his kibble? I was reading an article that said that changing your dogs food every month or up to every three months is good for them because it gives them a variety and it doesn't cause them to become more Picker. Does anyone have any suggestions. Sometimes my pup won't eat until nighttime or even until the next day and he's only three lbs so hypoglycemia worries me. |

| try cooking some plain organic chicken for them and boil it in water, feed them that and the chicken water and hopefully it will help. Try a little honey in their regular water too. You might want to look into home cooking to make sure they are getting a balanced diet. I feed whole prey raw and ground raw to mine, but that's not for everyone. There are brands that I've seen highly recommended in the US Primal Raw and Stelly and Chewy's. These are premade raw foods you may wish to look into. |

| I went through the same thing about a month ago. I will tell you what I did, but keep in mind, just because it worked for me, doesn't mean it's right for you and your pup. Others may have some better advise... I got my pup at 13 weeks old. I was feeding her the same dry kibble the breeder used. She didn't seem to eat a lot, but I attributed it to being in new surroundings. At about 3 months old I started trying ways to get her to eat because she was so picky. I would put the kibble right in the floor and that seemed to be working. Then at about 4 months she wasn't interested in that anymore and I was worried that she wasn't eating enough and I started mixing in broth. And that worked for a few days, until she again wasn't interested. I then started mixing in wet food. Again, worked for a few days and then nothing. I then realized, she was totally playing me. She knew if she refused to eat, I would find something else yummy to give her. That's when I decided to give tough love. Starting in the morning I put only her dry kibble out. She is usually not hungry in the morning anyway, but about noon I would see her go to her food bowl, sniff and walk away. The first day it took her until about 4-5 in the afternoon to finally give in and eat. The next day she ate around noon. The third day she was stubborn again and was testing me, but I didn't give in (even though it was hard not to). After a few days she realized dry kibble is all she eats. Some days she doesn't eat till afternoon, but she still eats 3-4 times a day, and I'm not going through hoops to try to get her eat. |

I wish i had the time for that because i really would cool myself for him but i am a nurse and work 13 he days so i cant cater to that. Stelly and Chewys freeze dried raw is what I top his good with now and he loves it, but only eats that sometimes and its just not enough. Too expensive too to just feed him that. Thank you for your input, i might try the primal raw, i have heard great things.

Tough love is what I've had to do on several occasions and it works. But then sometimes he will go back to it. The day before he did that so he didn't eat all day, then yesterday morning he ate all of his breakfast and at nighttime ate about half. this morning didn't eat so I'm not to feed him until tonight I just hope he catches on. I am thinking about maybe switching his kibble because maybe it's just not satisfying for him anymore but man o man, Yorkies are tough ones! I also give him a midafternoon snack of a little cottage cheese and fruit but he doesn't get it if he doesn't eat breakfast. I'm wondering if this is alsocausing issues. So stressful. I also only feed him twice because I want him on a routine and I don't want to free feed him because it's just not convenient for my schedule. Plus i moisten his kibble to make it more appetizing, I probably will stop this too.

| I have either been very lucky, or tough love really works! I've owned & fostered yorkies for years, and I've never had one that doesn't eat the good quality kibble I offer (currently Earthborn Hollistic). I free feed the kibble, and watch them to make sure they eat. The trick that works for me is that I don't let them know I'm paying attention to them eating, and I don't make a big deal about it if they don't. Sometimes a new foster may go a day without eating, but is chowing down by day 2. I don't know if it's because I don't make a big deal about it, or if they are competing with the other pups for the food, or a combination of both. There are no picky eaters in THIS house lol! Having said that, I must add that I've never had a puppy. So I never had to worry about hypoglycemia. I would probably handle a puppy much more carefully.
