| Best food for puppy What is the best thing to feed my 11 week old pup? I currently haver her on Iams puppy but she literally is pooping 5 times a day. Is that normal?? Or does she need something better? |

| Not an Iams fan. I feed my dogs Nature's Variety Prairie Chicken Meal and Brown Rice dry food. They love it and have eaten it since we got them at 12-13 weeks old. Sometimes I throw in a different formula (flavor) just for a little variety. We have had very good luck with Nature's Variety. It's an all life stages food, not an actual puppy food. I was told that their Prairie formulas are more appropriate for puppies than their Instinct (grain free) formulas. You can go to their website to get a "try it" coupon too. |

| It is pretty normal for pups to poop a lot, especially if you are leaving access to food all day. I would stick with whatever you are using for awhile, it is not good to change such young pups around a lot.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Are you free feeding her? That does seem like a lot of poop, but if she's eating 5 times a day, it makes sense. Lots of people free feed till the age of 6-8 months.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | She hasn't been on solid food that long, I really don't like to see people switching too much the first 6 months. Are the poops firm? I know some foods cause them to poop more than others, but I'm not sure that is necessarily a bad thing.

| Don't use Iams products or proctor and gamble. They have cruelty testing on dogs and cats, AWFUL! |

| My dog pooped 3x when she was a puppy. I personnally feed fromm. She is extremely picky and loves this brand. They have flavors with tiny kibble size. The Surf and turf, salmon flavors are small size kibbles. I cant recall which other one is small sized. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I heard that Iams had some questionable practices years ago, but I thought that was a thing of the past, and I haven't heard anything about P&G. Do you have information from reliable sources?

| I have fed Iams to previous puppies and dogs and they did great. I currently have my pups on Wellness Just for Puppies Small Breed. I switched them from the Pedigree the breeder had them on to Wellness in about a week. Which was fast, but they picked the Wellness out of the bowl and left the other stuff. They had no issues with upset tummy or with soft stools. The pieces are really small and easy for little Abby to eat. I have read a lot of opinions about a variety of dog foods. I think if your puppy is thriving and processing the food you should probably stick with it. As for the poop, mine seemed to poop every time I turned around for the first 4-6 weeks - might have just felt that way with two. I leave food down for the all day in case I have to work late, but have noticed that they eat when we play in the morning and when I get home from work. They seem to poop about 3 times a day each. |

| Personally I'm not a fan of Iams but you have to use what food is working best for your dog. There are some dogs that cannot tolerate the higher quality foods because it's too rich on their systems. I feel that if you can feed your dog a higher quality food and they can tolerate it, then by all means feed it. For me, I use primal raw in the morning for breakfast for Sasha and Blue Buffalo Wilderness kibble for dinner in the evening. It has worked the absolute best for her. Her coat is extremely soft & silky, she has an abundant amount of energy and overall she's an extremely happy dog. All of her treats are all natural as well. I'm definitely all about the all natural foods and feel they're the best for dogs, but that's just my opinion and like I said not all dogs can tolerate foods like these. |

| I'm not a huge Iams fan but I second whoever said not to be switching around right now unless it's absolutely necessary. Your puppy is probably eating what the breeder had her on and she is still very young. In a few months, if you want to try a different food - you would very gradually switch her over by mixing her old and new foods. I made a mistake by trying to switch Lucy over from Purina Puppy Chow (her breeder had her on this) to a high protein Taste of The Wild. Lucy could not handle the higher protein and I should have just left well enough alone at her young age. I say, right now, if it aint' broke ~ don't fix it. As she matures, she should not be pooping 5 x per day. There are so many different choices out there and so many different opinions ~ I say the best dog food is the one that works for YOU, YOUR DOG, and YOUR Pocketbook.
