| Did the vet give cat Frontline? Can't give it early unless a vet says to. It doesn't really repel ticks but kills them after a certain amount of time. Finding one tick shouldn't be a problem.

| Last year our area was hit hard with ticks. I guess because it was so dry. I have indoor outdoor cats and we live in a wooded area. The cats were coming in with ticks on them so I bought Frontline for ticks as it is the only brand that says it kills ticks for cats. Well, the cats continued to come in with fully engorged ticks. The Frontline did nothing. I had to stand at the door with a flea comb and a tick puller every time I would let one in. We don't have a fenced yard so my dog is always on a leash and I don't walk her near where the ticks hang out. Though I always check her after every walk. The ticks like the tall grass and sit on tall grass and weeds waiting for a warm body to jump on. I can tell you Frontline is useless for ticks even though it advertizes that it kills them. We have had a lot of rain this year and the cats have had very few ticks. I pray it stays that way. I wouldn't put a flea and tick remedy on my animal before the time stated on the label. |

| Advantix works much better when it comes to ticks. In my area, Frontline is just not as good. And it does not keep the ticks off but says it will kill them once they bite. I don't like Frontline personally. I use Advantix on Rosie when necessary. Am I reading correctly that you are the cat formula Frontline? Just wondering, this is the first I have heard of that. Did your vet suggest this? I would not give it early without talking to your vet. BTW, Advantix only comes in Dog formula. I don't think there is one for cats.

Advantix works best for us. Though it is VERY toxic to cats, so yes, they do not have a cat formula. Jackson got lymes disease while on Frontline. I am not very comfortable with the permithin in Advantix, though, to be honest. So I only use it during the really bad tick season (summer) and use Frontline for the rest of the year. It does seem to work for us in the cooler months, when ticks are not as bad, but still around.

| Frontline is not a bad product. It sometimes doesn't work as well as some others for ticks and all flea/tick products will probably become less effective overtime. Advantix should not be used if a cat is going to come near a treated dog. So that isn't an okay option for a lot of owners. Permethrin also has a somewhat high reaction rate, so that's another reason it does not work for all dogs.

| Thanks for all you're advice as i live in Greece i use frontline once a month and i must admit it is the first tick i have found, it was small and hadn't latched on to the skin so maybe the medication had worked. If i find anymore in later months i will switch to another brand. Thank you all...... |

My furkids Donating Member | I don't use chemicals on the girls. this is a recipe that my Mom got from a holistic vet in our area....1 cup of water 15 drops (I use 20 -25 drops) peppermint oil(by at natural food store) put in spray bottle. shake before each use. spray a paper towel and wipe down the dog, concentrating on the neck and ear area...keep away from eyes. This works GREAT for fleas and ticks. We use this when we are camping and, so far so good! The only draw back is it has to be every couple of days. BUT, it is all natural!

| We apparently have a serious tick problem here in VA. I have found 5 on Zel in like 2 days-- and she's only even outside when I take her out to go potty (in the grass for under 5 minutes!). I obviously always get them off, but she has had flea/tick meds (Hartz, which I now think is crap) within the last 2 weeks, so I am not putting more on her. I plan on trying the peppermint oil method, but should I be worried about doing anything else immediately? |

| We use Frontline Plus and I have found ticks on mine but they were dead. It won't prevent them from getting on them but will kill them if they attach. In addition to the Frontline, I started bathing them with lemongrass oil.
