| Non-Stop panting? I was given a male yorkie yesterday and he NEVER stops panting. He is 12 lbs and 7 years old.The man who I got him from cut all his hair down short to cool him off. I think he is huge but I dont know because my other yorkie is a dainty lil girl that I just recued a couple weeks ago.Anyway, Scruffy pants non-stop and I am wondering if its a sign something is wrong with him or he is just a heavy breather? I have pictures of him on my profile. |

| my one yorkie pants heavily after a walk or when he is hot,, the heavy panting seems to only make it worse, i often have to give him a cool down in the tub, i just let the water hit him for a min or two, it always works. I have also bought him these neck ties that you put in cool water that stay cool for a while that he wears they also work, and a cooling matt, it cools down when he sits or lays on it, he didnt like it at first but he seems to like it now. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | My first thought would be to have him checked out to see if he is in pain. Especially in light on one of your other posts that said he's a sweet boy who then suddenly gets angry and starts destroying things.

| O yes his vet visit is this afternoon.I dont fool around tryin to get my pets to the doctor..they are my babies! Plus I know his leg is hurt..He walks on it but when he runs he lifts it.. and its people he will bite for no reason..I believe he was abused because he just snaps on people for no reason..he almost killed one of the kittens today because it walked by and he likes cats..even shares food with them..IF the mood strikes him...I wont let him be alone with My gracie at all... one he isnt fixed and she isnt till the beginning of the month and two hes too mood switchy...I dont trust him. He bit me lastnight while I was rubbing his belly! Last edited by TMWESS77; 07-29-2010 at 07:17 AM. Reason: keys moved on me |

| Constant panting is one of the symptoms of Congestive Heart Failure. I would definitely have the vet do a heart check-up while you are there. Definitely keep us updated on his progress. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My pom panted a lot, but as she got older she panted non stop, she Had congestive heart failure but did fine on medicines for almost 2 years. Also she was 12 years old. Once when I asked my vet why she panted so much she said she was a highly excitable dog. Hope all checks out with him. Also the male I took in who was a previous rescue, will go after my girls and has snapped at me when startled. Fortunately he doesn't have any teeth so he can't hurt us. Since we don't know his history, I am guessing he was abused and his biting is a result of this.

| From all I can see with him he has for sure. He flinches ALOT.. Cant even pet him without him ducking like Im going to beat him..If he gets told no loudly he lays down and shakes. I wish I knew how to take away his fear instantly but I know I cant... Hes 7 years old. I just hope it wont take 7 years to fix all the emotional damage! |

| Scruffy was given a Steroid injection and has to go back in 5 weeks.. He has a torn ACL in his right rear knee and may need surgery..The vet said he would like to break the neck of the man who had him.His exact words. I had his shots done as well and Scruffy should be ok other than the knee..he has some ribs that healed wrong from the abuse but they can be left be as they are not laying on or near the lungs. The panting is just his nerves and he has a strong steady heart beat. Also told me that Scruffy will come around with my love and attention. |

| Hammer pants a lot. he is about 12 lbs. Like the previous owner, we keep his hair short in the summer. The panting stops. He used to pant just constantly. Even just sitting there. So we get his hair cut ever couple of weeks now. Its a pain but a big help! |

| Poor Scruffy. Thank goodness he is with someone who will love and care for him. Be patient. He doesn't understand how lucky he is yet.
