| Keeping Yorkie calm after surgery/ Can Yorkies eat Jell-O?? Someone suggested I give Jello to my 6-month Yorkie who was just neutered yesterday, can I feed him this? Also does anyone have any suggestions as to how to maintain them calm?? He just had his surgery yesterday and the wound is fairly big but he just refuses to be still and I'm getting scared he's straining too much. Any advice will be helpful!!! Thank you so much! |

| I wouldn't feed him jello...too much sugar and no nutritional value at all...and you certainly don't want to feed him sugar free jello. Do you have a kennel, puppy playpen or x-pen you can contain him in with a bed, food/water and a potty pad until he can move around again? Actually, if his surgery was yesterday he should be fine back on his regular diet today as long as he will eat and he's not throwing up his meals. What did your vet say about feeding? | What was his surgery...If he was neutered then just don't let him jump around for awhile... No on the Jello..you really should only feed your dog dog food or healthy human food.

| Put him in a crate, in a stroller closed up, in a x-pen or my favorit in your arms. Some with very little moving space so he does not run or jump and don't forget to take him out to use the restroom. I think they can eat Jell-O but I don't know how much or if feeding just that is good. I gave my boy his regular can food. Best of Luck to both

Unless your vet told you not to feed him he should be put back on his normal diet. Even if he had a few puppy teeth removed he will still be able to eat normally. Try not to worry so much.

I agree. Good nutrition is very important for wound healing. Jello has no nutritional value and the sugar free kind is dangerous. | |

| One of the vets told us to give 1-2ml of Jell-O cause of the grenetin being good for her hair and nails. She also told us that yogurt/ frozen yogurt being good for her tummy. Now I'm confused cause she seems to care about her patients. Its the 3rd vet we've met before making our last choice.

| I assume you meant "gelatin". You can buy unflavored packets of gelatin - no need to give JELLO with the artificial coloring, etc. Organic yogurt is also good. I suspect you may be on information overload. Your vet probably gave you a lot of information and since you were worried about your baby just going through surgery, it was probably very hard to absorb. Did you get written post op instructions? I would call your vet tomorrow and ask your questions. |
