I know the plan is coming up for renewal and want to see if I should change companies? Let me know what you think...

Ryan, I'm with Embrace and I really like the company. But, if I couldn't have Embrace I would go with Petplan. I think they're two of the best companies out there right now, if not THE best. My opinion? If you're ok staying on Petplan, you should. There's always a small waiting period after signing up for new insurance & I'm terrified something will happen during that time. I think it's better to keep continuous coverage at all times. JMO.

| Ryan I've been thinking more about this and the differences between the companies. I had been with Embrace only a few months when I first learned of Petplan. Petplan's reviews were so good that I seriously considered switching. But, after doing more research and talking to rep's at both companies, I found they had 2 major differences in their coverages: 1) Embrace is more limited on coverage of on-going chronic conditions. I believe they only cover up to $2,500 on chronic care after the first year when it's diagnosed. Petplan offers more extensive coverage for chronic conditions. 2) Petplan lets you choose a co-pay percent, but that % does not apply if you need after-hours emergency care, treatment by a specialist, and several other listed limitations. So basically, the co-pay % you select is only valid at a regular vet during regular business hours for care not requiring a specialist. With Embrace your selected co-pay % applies where ever, when ever, with what ever type of doctor you choose. After thinking about these two points, I decided that FOR ME, it would be best to stay with Embrace. I think some of the highest costs in veterinary care are the emergency and the specialist care. If my baby is sick or injured in the middle of the night, I don't want to have to worry about what my insurance is or is not covering, if I can afford care for him, etc. Also, I want my baby to have the very best care possible and that often means a specialist. Now, if I had only the one like you do my choice might have been different but it's very possible that one or more of mine may need care at the same time. if you do decide to switch from Petplan, you could always sign up with Embrace before you cancel your Petplan coverage. That way she would still be insured during Embrace's waiting period. Hope this helps!

I didn't mean Petplan won't cover ER and those other things...they do. They just charge you a much higher co-pay percent than what you selected on your plan. Oh and the other biggie for me was the deductible - with Embrace the deductible you choose is good for the whole year, you only pay your deductible one time. With Petplan, the deductible applies to each illness or injury, so you have to pay it every time you take her in for something new. That could really add up, especially as they get older and have more problems. Look at this page and click on the "?"'s next to deductible and next to co-pay, it will explain what I'm trying to say. Petplan's Flexible Dog Insurance Policies On Embrace, I went the major medical only with a $200 annual deductible and $10,000 annual maximum (this is per pet). The cost is approx $33/month for each of my guys. I did not choose the Wellness plan because I wouldn't spend any more than they're covering anyway so why pay their premiums? (Their wellness plan will reimburse a max of $250 per year).
