Ryan I've been thinking more about this and the differences between the companies.
I had been with Embrace only a few months when I first learned of Petplan. Petplan's reviews were so good that I seriously considered switching. But, after doing more research and talking to rep's at both companies, I found they had 2 major differences in their coverages:
1) Embrace is more limited on coverage of on-going chronic conditions. I believe they only cover up to $2,500 on chronic care after the first year when it's diagnosed. Petplan offers more extensive coverage for chronic conditions.
2) Petplan lets you choose a co-pay percent, but that % does not apply if you need after-hours emergency care, treatment by a specialist, and several other listed limitations. So basically, the co-pay % you select is only valid at a regular vet during regular business hours for care not requiring a specialist. With Embrace your selected co-pay % applies where ever, when ever, with what ever type of doctor you choose.
After thinking about these two points, I decided that FOR ME, it would be best to stay with Embrace. I think some of the highest costs in veterinary care are the emergency and the specialist care. If my baby is sick or injured in the middle of the night, I don't want to have to worry about what my insurance is or is not covering, if I can afford care for him, etc. Also, I want my baby to have the very best care possible and that often means a specialist.
Now, if I had only the one like you do my choice might have been different but it's very possible that one or more of mine may need care at the same time.
if you do decide to switch from Petplan, you could always sign up with Embrace before you cancel your Petplan coverage. That way she would still be insured during Embrace's waiting period.
Hope this helps!
