| How often should I bathe my yorkie? I was told that you shouldn't bathe your dog often because it strips the oils from their skin. Is it true for yorkies? Hannah starts to smell after two weeks of not being washed. However, I am hesitant to wash her because she scratches quite often. We are narrowing it down to either the heat or the carpet. I don't want to make her skin dry. I live in a house where there is dry heat . And I give her flaxseed oil. Any other suggestions for reducing her scratching? P.S. when she scratches it's very hard. She'll scratch then she will lick her paws. |

| My Jack has dry skin too. Its true with most dogs that you shouldn't bathe them too often because it will strip the oils, however, with yorkies, they do not have undercoats and will sweat and get stinky. Actually Jack's head get oily after not bathing him for a week. I usually bathe him once a week but have let him go for two weeks - never any longer than though. The dry skin can be caused by many things. I have started using an oatmeal shampoo for Jack which helps. It could also be the type of food you are feeding your little one. That is something else that I've noticed. Since we have changed Jack's food to Innova Evo, his dry skin is not nearly as bad as it was when I was feeding him Spot's Stew/Halo. Good luck with your little one!

| it depends on how sensitive your dogs skin is. I usually bathe Marley every two weeks. I heard others bathing their yorkies once a month. If Marley gets a bit dirty i wash off his paws, and usually wash his bootty every other day. I brush him every day and spray on some grooming spray, and he smells good. | we bathe joey and tank every week...typically on saturdays, because my husband and I have the whole weekend with them, so they won't be locked up alone during that time. They are locked in a bathroom during the time my husband and I are at work, so they do get stinky from the occassional accident in there...hence the weekly baths.

| We bath weekly. I give both mine fish oil, vit E oil, and coconut oil in there dinner every evening. I also melt the coconut oil down and rub it into their skin and place a shirt on them for a few hours prior to bathing on bath day. Neither of my boys itch or have dry skin.

| Bath every 2 to 3 weeks here, but a face and botty wash whenever needed!! If Molly has muddy paws, i stand her in a bowl of warm water to clean them when we get in from our walk. Molly has a really soft fluffy coat which tends to be a bit dry, so she wouldnt cope with being bathed too often.

Thor's Human Donating Member | FYI, dogs don't sweat, except for their paw pads. Yorkies should not get doggy "BO". If she's scratching and licking her paws, I wonder if that might be a food allergy, or possibly just boredom. I wait as long as I can between baths, which is probably about three weeks. Then it's usually if we went to the beach, and he's just too dirty to let it go. I dunk his paws if it's muddy outside, and butt wash as necessary (I try to keep his hair back there short and keep his diet to food that gives him non-sticky poops). |

| I bathe Lexie once a week. She also has dry skin so we use Hydrosurge Pronourish Natural Oatmeal Shampoo. Our Groomer uses this along with Bio-Groom Groom'N Fresh Cologne. When she dries from her bath we use one spray from the cologne on her back and then I rub it over her. If we don't bathe her weekly then she gets slightly smelly and her coat is dull. |

| Does anyone use a conditioner? I've noticed my little guy Max has had a very dull looking coat and he itches quite often. I have switched his food many times and the itching doesn't stop, so I'm assuming that is just out of boredom and something to do. I have been searching for a conditioner that doesn't stink as well because I hate all the smells of the dog shampoos and I get unscented for that. |

| Hi, I don't want to hijack this thread but had a "washing" question. What does everyone use to wash booty's daily? Is a gentle soap and water on a wash cloth work ok or do you use shampoo or something else? I don't want my Princess to ever "smell" like a dog. LOL

| With soap and shampoo you could accidently leave some on and cause irritation I use sensitive baby wipes.
