| Curious about allergies to chicken...Is Turkey & Duck included? I was just wondering... I see that people say their pup is allergic to chicken but does this include all poultry (Turkey, Quail, Duck,...)? Are eggs included? What about chicken fat?

| I think we finally figured out that Hot Rod is allergic to chicken. We noticed that he would start licking and chewing on his paws after chicken. I was able to give him turkey from Thanksgiving on without any symptoms. So I am thinking that turkey is okay but I don't know?? We still give Hot Rod small pieces of chicken every now and then but not like we used to. Most treats have some type of chicken in them too! So it's been hard to find something that I know won't affect him...but like I said, we still do give him maybe a small morsel every now and then...he loves chicken. poor baby.

| I suppose some are, but a chicken allergy doesn't mean they are allergic to all poultry. Dogs that allergic to chicken should be okay with chicken fat, but I really wouldn't want to try it.

| Rosco has Ibd from real chicken I boil. He also has the same problem with turkey. Eggs don't bother him in moderation. I feed him mostly lamb and rice. Hope this helps

| Alexander is allergic to chicken in dry dog food, but he can eat eggs & chicken fat. I've also fed him cooked chicken on a couple of occasions and he was fine. I think something in the processing of kibble is what triggers his allergies. I have fed him NV Instinct's Duck and Turkey and he had no reaction to it. I don't feed it often because none of my gang seems to like duck or turkey much. I used to feed NV raw but I was always too worried to feed him their raw chicken.

| usually if allergic to chicken then they are allergic to all poultry per our dermatologist. I would go with venison or fish with an allergy dog. Chicken and Beef are the biggest culrpits of food allergy and i agree in the processing aspect as well of kibble can many times be the biggest culprit and flaxseed is in alot of dog foods and that can be a culprit as well Last edited by dwerten; 02-28-2010 at 10:39 AM. |
