Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If she is ill, then yes - NutriCal is intended for ill or stressed dogs who are not eating, or need help stimulating their appetite. If she had diabetes, then it may not be the best thing to give her - but I'm assuming she doesn't. So...yes, Nutrical is good in this case.

| Your Kati is 15, right? It's so hard when they get older, isn't it? Nutrical will spike her blood sugar temporarily, but the sweet old girl needs to eat something solid. Have you tried boiling some chicken breast and rice and giving her that? Most dogs can't resist it. It would give her some much needed protein and carbs so she can keep her strength up. Has she been checked by your vet and had bloodwork to rule out any physical reason for not wanting to eat? These seniors need a lot of TLC and vet visits to keep them going. My Lady will be 14 in a few months and I spend a lot of time and money at my vet's office! We went to the vet school twice last week. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | My Kati is so finicky and shemhas to be on a low protin diet I cook boiled chicken but she won't eat rice so i put pasta in with itand broccoli or carrots but after 2 days she refuses to eat it..do you have any other ideas..I also take her to the vet often and am thinking of taking her in today. She also had a kidney infection and was on antibiotics for the past 2 weeks and at first i thought it was getting better but now it seems to be back the way it was. She continually licks her vulva and the she also licks the pee off her wee wee pads and it seems pretty dark. the vet told me that when a dog licks their urin like that ,it is a sign of an infection..have you ever heard of that..I really like my vet and she pulled my other yorkies thru illnesses and at the end 4 yrs of kidney failure..I am wondering if i should take her to another vet. She just looks at me and says "she is an old girl" :And I thank you for answering me..Karen and Kati |

| Sounds her kidney infection may not be cleared up. That could be why she isn't eating. They are very painful. Vets usually just guess the first time antibiotics are prescribed. If an infection doesn't clear up, a culture is usually required to isolate the bacteria causing the infection so they know which medication to prescribe. Sure, Kati is an "old girl", but that is no reason not to treat an infection. Has Kati had bloodwork recently? That will tell your vet how her kidneys and other organs are functioning. I sure wouldn't give up on your special old girl yet. |

the way i do it is first thing in am flip wee wee pad over they pee on it and i get from pharmacy a pill bottle and a eye dropper as they give for free i suction it up into the bottle and take to vet -less stressful than pulling from bladder with a needle and you may have some protein or contamination but not enough in my mind to do the needle in bladder way | |
