usually antibiotics need to take for 21 days so may not have taken long enough to kill infection and with staph they even go as long as 25 days with our dermatologist. So may have not been long enough and if you do not use probiotics 2hrs after so you give antibiotic 2hrs later give probiotic to put good bacteria back in system the infection can re -occur as you have killed good and bad bacteria in the digestive tract so sometimes if their immune system is really low the bad bacteria comes back with a vengeance. I use dds plus 2 capsules a day with my allergy dog as her immune system is low. I would imagine an older dog does not have the best immune system. you can get the dds plus at the vitamin shop in fridge. I have used it for 2 years. It is acidopholous, biffidus and fos and is better than yogurt as non-dairy and many dogs are lactose intolerant
