| Puppy Hair/Coat-Urgent We fell in love with a Yorkie puppy but were concerned about the thiness of her hair especially on her feet and behind her ears. She is very healthy except for that. The breeder said sometimes Yorkie pups lose some of their puppy hair at this 11-12 wk. stage and it will grow back...Help, please! Does anyone know why her coat would be very thin? (I don't mean the hair being fine in texture-the actual amount of the hair is thin in certain places.) Any advise you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks, Patti |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Did you see the parents? That would give you some idea of the coat history. I know they say silky coated pups have thinner hair. Unfortunatley my silky one is Pixie and I didn't get her until she was 13 months old, but the breeder said she hardly had any coat as a puppy. Her coat now is so siky and so easy to care for. Hoepfully others will have more experience with this will respond

| Hot Rod was 4 mos when we got him and his hair on his head was so thin that you could see his scalp. He's always had silky hair. His hair is still on the thin side but it a lot more now. I don't think that he will ever have a "full" head of hair as I've seen on this forum though. He was from a pet store so I do not have any info on his background unfortunately.

| HotRod Mom Bella is the same way looking at his Pic, they have the same type of coat. Bella was also from a pet store. Pretty much the same coloring also. When I put her hair up on top of her head there isn't that much either. But like Hotrod she sure is cute. Patty and Bella |

| Here are a few other things to consider... What kind of food are you feeding? Is she scratching? Is she on flea control? I'm asking about the foods, because grains can cause skin issues that could result in the loss of hair. Most flea controls also aid in the control of sarcoptic mange. Don't freak out, I'm not saying your baby has mange. When I got Bella we though her hair loss was from sarcoptic, which is caused by mites. It is more common that I thought it was.

| Pasquale is the same way. His hair on his head is so thin you can almost see his scalp. And its white to top it all off! It's the only place on his entire body that he has white hair. I think its adorable and everyone always starts a conversation about him based on that!

Yorkie Yakker | Emilio has thinner hair as well, looks a lot like your guys. His hair is thinner on his legs too. I also got him from a pet store, but got papers and used them to track down the breeder. I googled her and found her number. Called her and she was surprisingly happy to talk to me and answered all my many, many questions. She even sent me pictures of his parents and her home...so I knew where Emilio came from. All my friends were making fun of me for tracking the woman down, but I wanted to know info and see his parents and the breeder was so happy to get to see pics of him too. So don't feel like you can't get any info cause they came from a pet store. I know it is a BIG no no, but those puppies need homes too. To me it is like getting a dog from a rescue almost. I also have started using Buddy Wash and Buddy Rinse shampoo and conditioner on him and that seems to be making his coat nicer. It is really shiny and soft, just not super thick. |
