| JINX's eating habit Hi everyone, Can someone please assist me with suppliers of good food for my baby. Here in SA we only have HILLS, IAMS, EUKANUBA, ROYAL CANINE, VETS CHOICE, and normal supermarket food. I have searched the web and I cannot find suppliers like Merricks & Wellness. According to the lady I got Jinx from, he was raised on Royal Canine. She gave me a sample of food and he wasn't even interesting in it, to me it looked like he didn't even recognize it. Then he ate with the pekingese home cook food which consists the following : Brown- and a little bid of wild rice, lentils, carrots, beans, peas, brocoli, cauliflower and a spoon olive oil with a dash of garlic, mixed with cook chicken. After a while I had to replace the chicken with KFC chicken and now he pull up his nose. I got FIDO kibbles from a friend to try it, but he does'nt want to eat that also. I am motherless, I really do need advice, please !!! |

| Hey, greetings! Hmm to be honest, if you really have no way to get the better kibbles, I would feed raw, or yes, homecook, but without the rice. Carbohydrates isn't good for dogs - and that's a fact. I would give meat, meat, meat and more meat. If you do homecook, use meat as the base diet, not rice. My 2 year old shihtzu ate homecooked rice and chicken for less than a year, and she has VERY bad teeth - I will show you pictures if you'd like. Please also, no garlic or olive oil. I don't know how much you're giving, but garlic isn't good for dogs, and olive oil I'm not sure, but I wouldn't take chances. What I know is that ppl that homecook usually boil, steam or puree - not fry. And please, no KFC chickens! It's deep fried, and it's chemically enhanced chickens! Even I as a human who can process most crap in fast food, would not eat it. Please do not give such fatty things to your dogs. I myself feed Orijen, but planing to switch to Prey Model Diet soon. Check it out on the net. I think it will be convenient for you if your country is anything like mine - in my country we handle raw meat everyday. But this is just my humble opinions. I still have a lot to learn. If I say anything wrong in this post, someone please correct me. I think other members here may have some kind of better solution for you

| The main problem with home cooking is that you do not have the much needed supplements. Garlic is really not a good idea. Too much broccoli and cauliflower isn't good either. Oil is good and is needed - but it has to be raw, not heated. KFC is BAD - please don't feed that. If you do not have access to 'better' kibble and you want to home cook, I can recommend a Nutritionist from Cornell University. They charge $140 for (1) homecooked recipe, and IMO is well worth it, because you would be told the proper vitamins and nutrients to add to the cooked meal (and portions as well). Let me know |
