No Longer a Member | Baby Food/Can dog food Hello Everyone, We have had Chloe about 2 1/2 months. She is the most picky dog when it comes to food. I have tried about 8 different dry dog foods and she doesn't like any of them. My question is, can yorkies eat baby food in small tiny amounts? I just read that they can eat yogurt. I have tried her on cottage cheese and she likes it some but not much. The only thing that Chloe likes to eat is cheese and she likes Merrick can dog food without any kibble mixed in. If I mix some dry kibble in with it, she walks off. Can yorkies just eat can dog food. It's to the point that she hasn't eaten for almost 2 days. I fed her some new Thanksgiving Day can dog food today and she loved it. WOW, can you believe it. No more dry food for her. I've been out a lot of money. I've request samples and either never received them, or not enough food to see if she really liked it. Please let me know. Thanks, Denise -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last edited by wonderwoman41; 08-24-2008 at 08:07 PM. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | If she likes wet dog food then feed her that. The only concern i would have would be her teeth. if you do feed wet food just make sure you brush her teeth a little more attentively. I am in no way an expert on this, but there are a lot ppl who do. I wouldnt recommend going specifically on baby food unless a credible source tells you so. If she is still a puppy then she will need a lot of nutrients and balance in her diet. But like i said i dont really know too much about this. Good luck maybe this can be a bump! lol

| I give Bailey kibbles and sometimes mix a small amount of canned food in with it. I tried the baby food and it made her sick. |

YT 1000 Club Member | When Roxie was little she was more finicky so I'd take a little of the Ceasar's puppy and put it on top of her dry food. But I think they just get spoiled on the canned stuff and it's what makes them not want to eat the dry. There came a point where I stopped using it. I used Royal Canine puppy when she was smaller and now the Royal Canine for Yorkies. She's always liked this food just fine. The vet once said, "Some dogs live to eat and some eat to live". I think that's a very true statement. When she's hungry she'll eat what's in her bowl. Roxie never eats much all at once, she really only grazes. Just a few pieces here and there. A friend of mine said her yorkie doesn't really eat hardly any dog food, usually just what they eat...within reason of course. She said her's loves those buddig meats and such. |

| I would try the canned dog food first and give the babyfood as a last resort. The canned dog food meets a dogs nutritional needs

| I give Diesel babyfood at times. He loves it! I don't give it to hime as his only food source tho. He eats Chicken Soup. I like Beechnut brand babyfood. He like the Oatmeal and apples, Chicken and Rice, Chicken and veggies, and Chicken and chicken broth. He has never gotten sick off of it. When he was a puppy he was VERYpicky. I use to feed him the Chicken and chicken broth right much. He doesn't get soft food that much. I just don't want it to ruin his teeth. So he gets soft dogfood and babyfood as treats mainly.

| None of my dogs, even puppies have ever liked the kibble mixed with anything. Leave a bowl of dry kibble out for her and feed the wet separately. sometimes just giving then a small amount of wet, like a teaspoonfull is enough to make them hungry and they will eat their kibble. But I would not mix it and don't give her too much wet at a time to see if she will get hungry enough to eat the dry. I think sometimes we try to hard to please them and that makes them picky. for one of mine I had to resort to plain old purina puppy chow and then gradually started mising in some Royal Canin. they all seem to like the purina, it's kind of like junk food for dogs. |

| Canned higher in moisture which is better and much less processed than kibble. As long as you keep the teeth clean (like you have to do regardless of what food you feed), I think it's good to feed a high quality canned food. You could always try to mix just a tiny amount of kibble (like just a few pieces) in with the canned and increase little by little as she starts getting used to it.

No Longer a Member | how much can dog food daily? Thanks everyone for your great imput. How much can dog food should she eat daily. I feed her 2 times daily and yesterday, she ate 3 times. She is so hungry. I usually feed her about 1/2 can of food daily. Is this not enough? The can says 5/8 -3/8 of can. She still wants more. We bought her 2 1/2 months ago and her weight was 5 lbs and now she weighs 6.8 lbs. I think she has really picked up some weight. She is kinda tall with long legs. What do you think? Denise |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I would suggest Life's Abundance Dog Food. It is an all life stages food which means they eat it from puppyhood to adults. All my picky eaters LOVE it. As a matter of fact...I just opened a new bag and they all went totally crazy again over it, like it was the first time ever trying it ! LOL They are doing so well on it and it is VERY healthy! I sell this food and you can check it out in my signature here. Just click on the link Quote:
