Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I'm no expert but have a pic of what NOT to do.... The BIG arrow shows where I should NOT have cut....I accidentally trimmed too much and that little bit of hair it points to should have been left long..... the little line on right shows where I normally trim I take a trimmer and go up the front AND back of each ear..so they have little triangles sticking up.....hope this helps !! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | That's what I did wrong...I like the Butterfly look and where that big arrow is where I cut too much ON THE BACK of the ear....and all that fan hair is gone... I read it says to cut in a V shape.... but I just shave about the top third of the ear........once her hair really grows then you can see where you want the 'butterfly' hair to be and what you want trimmed.... I'm always doing little trims with sizzors....and you can shape the hair with little sizzors rather than cut the long pieces...just to even them up..it keeps those long pieces neater till the all grow in... but for just ears...I do front AND back - top third of the ear... |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Aha Foung one......no 'from the back shots' but in this one of Cheri ...the hair hanging OFF her ear grows on the back...this is the butterfly look I meant - and I love it - but if you cut too much - then it looks funky...which I DID see that wisp of hair way up top ...and the right side is uneven....that's a screw up on my part...so this is what NOT to do again lol - (thanks.... I didn't know she was cut uneven till I saw this pic) but this kind of shows you how the hair on their ears grows when it starts getting long......and it also shows I was way off target trimming her last time |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | and one more thing...I only started grooming last year and ANY mistake you make will grow back... you could always trim a bit further down.....see if you like that and if you don't - it'll grow and they'd be even.. then...next time you'll know how much you want to trim |
