| I have a couple grooming questions So following the latest fiasco I will be doing all of the grooming, except nails, all of the time. Princess needs her ears done now & I wondered for the hair on the upper inside of her ear how do I get it so close? People say they shave them, do they actually use a razor or just a short blade? I have clippers that came with some basic blades, but not really a short one. I also have a tiny mustache trimmer, didn't know if I should use that? I also wonder how to get such a close cut on her belly, or should I let that grow out with the rest? I feel so nervous about nicking one of her nipples. I'm going to try to grow her into at least a medium coat, to trim that should I use blending shears or just regular? Thanks for being patient with this 1st time Yorkie mom & her millions of questions.

| For ears, I use a mustache trimmer. Many people recommend the Wahl Peanut for achieving a good edge on the ears. The Peanut is also good for other parts, like paws. I scissor everything else, so I'm not sure about belly shaving safety. For scissors, I like the regular. Depends on the style, I suppose, which shears are best.

No Longer a Member | Mustache trimmer for ears, bum, and paws. If you have a clipper I'd put a #6 blade (1 inch) and shave her belly that way. Be sure to comb through her hair really well before you start clipping or you could hurt her. |

| Thanks so far. Just one more & possibly the last question on this topic, I want to try the longer ear hair look, so do I just close cut the tips? Or do I do the outside of the ear too and then the hair on the head is only what fans over to the side? Thanks.

| I scissor everything, never used clippers except the first time to cut off her black hair and boy was Uni scared. Even tipping her ears, she knows to stay nice and still and I use tiny scissor and trim the edges. I don't like the super shaved look. Just be careful if you do use clippers, go up against the flat part of the ears (front and back), NEVER up the skinny edges (left and right), or else you will mangle her ears! Just cut the top 1/3 of the ear, and let the rest grow.

No Longer a Member | Do you mean like this? Rizzo Cute3.jpg If so, then you just clip the top 1/3 of the ear and let the rest grow naturally. |

| My Harrah is 8 months and I have done all her grooming myself. It has been a lot of trial and error and a few silly cuts. When I first got her, her ears didn't stand so I found out you should trim their ears. I went to Wal-Mart and bought some cheap dog clippers. They were really big, they said no pinching or cutting, but when I used them they cut up that sides of her ears and cut in between her toes. I WAS SO MAD! So I looked on here and people suggested the small clippers. I was really lucky and found one at a flea market brand new. I think its a pocket pro. Anyway I absolutely love it. It's much quieter than the big one and doesn't hurt my baby. I highly suggest it. It comes with a storage bag and accessories needed for all the small places. |

| For yorkies, here is my routine: for tipping the ears I have a tiny (and I mean tiny) battery operated trimmer clipper. The clipper blade is an inch wide (if that) which I use to trim the top third of the ear. For the outer edges, a pair of tiny scissors, just be extremely careful not to nick the ear leather and use your fingers as a guide. For paw pads, I use a #40 blade. The #40 is considered a surgical blade, but I like the way it removes most of the hair between the pads. For the body, if you're going to a shorter style, I recommend not using anything shorter than a #7 blade - in summer I will usually go for a #4. If you like the longer look but just would like a cleaner look, I would go with a #30 blade using comb attachments. If you want the long flowing look, then go for a scissor trim instead of opting to use the clippers. Hope this helps!

| No professional here, but Cali's hair is long so I don't cut it. I only trim the tips of her ears - I like the long hair cascading off the ears ( I use the clippers).
