For yorkies, here is my routine: for tipping the ears I have a tiny (and I mean tiny) battery operated trimmer clipper. The clipper blade is an inch wide (if that) which I use to trim the top third of the ear. For the outer edges, a pair of tiny scissors, just be extremely careful not to nick the ear leather and use your fingers as a guide.

For paw pads, I use a #40 blade. The #40 is considered a surgical blade, but I like the way it removes most of the hair between the pads.

For the body, if you're going to a shorter style, I recommend not using anything shorter than a #7 blade - in summer I will usually go for a #4. If you like the longer look but just would like a cleaner look, I would go with a #30 blade using comb attachments. If you want the long flowing look, then go for a scissor trim instead of opting to use the clippers.

Hope this helps!
