For ears, I use a mustache trimmer. Many people recommend the Wahl Peanut for achieving a good edge on the ears. The Peanut is also good for other parts, like paws.

I scissor everything else, so I'm not sure about belly shaving safety. For scissors, I like the regular. Depends on the style, I suppose, which shears are best.
