| Question about blade size Hi, I have an Oster and also a Peanut shaver. I have a #10 blade for the Oster and would like to buy another blade that would give a very short puppy cut. I have heard that a 3 or 4 gives them a little hair so should I purchase a #7? Any suggestions please? The attachments leave the hair too long. Thanks, Ginger |

| A 4F is a nice blade for a short puppy cut. It leaves them about 3/8" long. I honestly don't think you'd want to go any shorter unless you really want to do a shave down. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | I use a 7F or 5F on Morgan when i shave her down for the summer. She has a cotton coat and when i do this she is smooth, peach fuzzy, and so soft. I like to make sure everything is even so i go with the short blades. When i use a 3F or 4F it leave the length uneven (probably not noticed by anyone else but i see it). And i don't like reverse clipping. when i groom silky coated yorkies sometimes i find that a 30 blade and a 4 or 5 comb makes the cut look smoother. i think its all about experimenting with each coat. every coat is different so a 3 on one dog will probably look different then a 3 on another.

| So the 7F is a short blade then? As you can tell I am totally inexperienced. Why do some blades have the letters, like in 7F for instance. I like the really short cuts only because their hair grows out so fast. Thanks so much for your help. Ginger |

After my kids Champion I cut them down with a 7F blade, against the growth of the coat. Legs are left long and heads are done in a puppy cut. I and they prefer this length.

| The F stands for finished cut. You don't want to get one w/out the F after it. Those are skip tooth blades & if used incorrectly, can snag the skin. Like Kellie, I like the 7F on Momo who has a very thick cottony coat, for the summer. It leaves a velvety smooth finish. Turbo has thinner, probably modified hair & the 4F or 5F is great for his hair type. Unless you want the buzzed cut look, then go w/7F. I too love the cut Mardelin described, leaving the legs long. It gives them a style, but still have the short easy to maintain body. 4F leaves 3/4" of hair on the body 5F leaves 1/2" 7F leaves 1/4" Anytime you go against the grain (natural hair growth), it cuts in half. 5F against the grain would leave 1/4" of hair on the body.

| I've owned both, and would take a Oster over an Andis anytime. They don't heat up as fast and are much quieter too.
