4F is the best for a longer puppy cut. #10 would really cut down to the skin. I would suggest buying 2 4F blades. If one should get hot you can change them out. A 7F blade is used if you want to cut down shorter, going against the hair growth gives you a nice valour/velvet feel, without blade marks.
