| Oops!! How long does it take for a yorkies hair to grow?? Hello everyone, Im soooooo upset!!!!. I just rescued a yorkie and when we brought her home, her hair was so long that it touched the floor. So I thought I'd take her to the groomers and have it trimmed. The groomers did a great job and she looked perfect!!!. I should of left it alone!!!!! But I didnt (BIG MISTAKE)..... I thought I'd just trim the hair around the ears a little bit because I thought the hair was sort of weighing her ears down. And I saw some of the yorkies here on YT with their ears standing straight up and I thought they all looked sooo cute. Well, a couple of snip snips later........ and it looks horrible!!!!!. Does anyone know how long it will take for her to grow really long again??? I feel horrible...... Love, Jenn |

| Two years-ish, depending on how you take care of it, for a full to the floor coat. If it's only her ears you are worried about a few months. I've done that before LOL. Tried to give one of my girls a "puppy" cut..I learned my lesson hahah! :~) |

| it really depends on the yorkie, and how you handle the coat. Dolly reached a full coat (floor length) at about one and a half, and then I cut her down because its too much work for a pet, but she's had her yorkie moments LOL. Ear hair though grows very fast, almost too fast, so it shouldn't be a big problem for you!

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Are you just talking about the ears or the whole coat. If you just messed up on the upper ears just give it a few weeks. The whole coat can take probably about a year depending on the dog. My boys coat has been growing now for about 9 months and we are almost to the floor. But I do trim it every few weeks to keep it looking nice. |

| Thanks everyone!!! I feel much better now, but now I cant help laughing everytime I look at her LOL!!!!!!!!!! When I got her, her body was already shaved down (I mean SHAVED SHORT!!!) and the hair on her head was really long so she looked kinda funny. I guess because she was so matted they had to shave her down and they saved what they could. Thats why I thought trimming the hair around the head might kinda balance everything out......LOL!!! I cannot wait until her hair grows really long!!!!! it takes one year????? Well, at least the hair on her head should grow faster.... Is there anything I can do to make the hair grow faster??? Maybe some kind of shampoo??? Currently Im giving her salmon oil. Im not sure how to post pic (im not to computer savvy, I just figured out how to post a thread LOL!!!) But if you look in my album, you see the before and after pics!!! I swear now every time she looks at me, it seems like shes mad.....LOL!!! |

The best thing to do is not cut a ton of hair at a time. Have a picture on hand of the haircut you want and cut your dog's hair one short piece at a time. I'm not talking about 3 or 5 strands of hair, I'm talking about cutting off short lengths at a time. Take a little off, then look at the photo then look at your dog. Cut a little off and look. Repeat these steps and you'll get it. It's better to have extra hair on your dog than to cut it too short. So cut hair short lengths at a time and compare the cut with a photo reference. =) | |
