Blood in Feces My puppy whom we've only had for about a week and a half had very runny poop this morning and it also had a little bit of blood. She apparently seems to be acting normal (she's with my fiances' mom at the moment) but has been eating very little for the past several days and her tummy is making grumbling noises. She's on Royal Canin puppy mini bites or something (not one of the foods that was recalled- but I'm still concerned since they just recalled a bunch of Royal Canin on Friday). I got her in to my vet at 6:00 (in 4 hours- I'm working and couldn't get the puppy from my fiance and to the vet any sooner and his vet didn't have any openings- which is ridiculous for a sick puppy!!). Anyway- has anyone else had similar problems?

I had same problem with my Marley he had diarrhea and blood in stool....it turn out to be giardia a persistent nasty parasite...they are probably going to do a stool sample to find out for sure....what they told me is that if is bright red or fresh blood is less likely to be an emergency. Let us know how it goes

sorry I didn't mean that last sentence about the fresh blood they told me it might be a puncture from something sharp like chicken bones and if is just spotting might be irritation on the large intestine.

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | I haven't, but my best friends Yorkie had this - turns out it was Parvo She was also throwing up though and not eating very well. Could also be Giardia as a few others have mentioned. I really do hope it isn't anything serious though. Please keep us updated!

LOL! I was starting to get really concerned after I read your post- thinking boy I hope I don't get this thing from my pup! lol But I did think it was interesting that you followed your statement with exclamation points (I don't think I've ever heard anyone be excited over having a parasite lol). Anyway thanks for your response and I hope your pup gets better soon too!

Well we spent 2 hours at the vet last night- it was Roo's first visit (supposed to be on Wednesday before the problem arose!) so I think that was part of the reason it took so long. They tested her for liver shunts- she tested normal on everything. Her blood sugar was fine, her stool sample actually came back negative as well but since she didn't have a very good one the vet gave us some medications to start her on just to make sure (she's on 3! I guess it's better safe than sorry but that seems like a lot for such a teeny tiny dog!). It turns out that she's only 1.12 pounds so the vet wants us to start her on wet dog food (she said we could try mixing it with dry but not to worry about it if she only eats the wet since we just want her to put on a little weight). The only thing they could find that was wrong with her was that she has ear mites! They only found that because I specifically asked because Roo's been itching a lot. Apparenlty that's something that shouldn't happen- it only happens when the puppies are kept near cats and it's a sign of uncleanliness...I could strangle the breeder! Roo was wiped out after the whole ordeal at the vet- she even slept through the whole night for Jonathan! After the stool sample, giving blood, finally eating and getting a vitamin and all the stress of being away from Jonathan and I, I'm not surprised that the little puppy was tired! Anyway thanks for all the responses and well wishes!
