Well we spent 2 hours at the vet last night- it was Roo's first visit (supposed to be on Wednesday before the problem arose!) so I think that was part of the reason it took so long. They tested her for liver shunts- she tested normal on everything. Her blood sugar was fine, her stool sample actually came back negative as well but since she didn't have a very good one the vet gave us some medications to start her on just to make sure (she's on 3! I guess it's better safe than sorry but that seems like a lot for such a teeny tiny dog!). It turns out that she's only 1.12 pounds so the vet wants us to start her on wet dog food (she said we could try mixing it with dry but not to worry about it if she only eats the wet since we just want her to put on a little weight).
The only thing they could find that was wrong with her was that she has ear mites! They only found that because I specifically asked because Roo's been itching a lot. Apparenlty that's something that shouldn't happen- it only happens when the puppies are kept near cats and it's a sign of uncleanliness...I could strangle the breeder!
Roo was wiped out after the whole ordeal at the vet- she even slept through the whole night for Jonathan! After the stool sample, giving blood, finally eating and getting a vitamin and all the stress of being away from Jonathan and I, I'm not surprised that the little puppy was tired! Anyway thanks for all the responses and well wishes! |
