| Both yorkies sick, one has ct, need help Sorry this story is so long , but im so worried!I had to rush my boy yorkie to the vet on tuesday , he had diarreaha and bright yellow vomiting all morning, then around lunch time he was vomiting blood with the yellow foam. my vet clinic only had 1 vet on who was in surgery and couldnt take us for a while, so i called another vet. she stayed during her lunch hour to take us.. She wasnt sure why he was sick but she gave him a bunch of meds and a bunch of meds to take home. He seems to be getting better. Also to note i switched their food to royal canin mini 2 weeks ago, a week after they were both vomiting a bit of yellow every now and then until tuesday morning when milo got really sick , the vet said shes unsure if thats what made milo so sick, i got rid of the food just in case. So theres been no vomiting for both dogs since tuesday. Then yesterday my girl yorkie with collapsed trachea vomited yellow foam , immediately after her breathing became very loud and with vocal noises( usually she functions ok with just a breathy wheeze) but this was loud and very labored, she could barley move and had to keep laying down, her ribs looked bloated out and her back a little hunched, she wouldn't eat all day ,until supper time she ate a bit, i called my regular vet before they left on sat and they said bring her in monday if she is not better. I wanted to call an emergency vet after hours last night but i couldn't find any # anywhere. Anyways this morning her breathing is still very loud, shes laying at the end of my bed with me now, shes quiet when shes asleep ,which she is now. Im bringing her to the vet as soon as they open tomorrow, whichever one will take me. She has been sneezing the past few days, I'm wondering if this is just some type of infection? Shes making gurgling noises. What kind of things should i ask them to do at the vet to know what this is? Has anyone here experience this with their ct yorkie? Or did her collapse just suddenly worsen that quickly? This has been absolute hell , the vet that they've been going to since i first got them has done nothing for me, they should have had more than 1 vet on tuesday, and they should have stayed past hours on sat for me to bring my ct yorkie in. Im just scared im going to lose her, shes my whole world so this is just a nightmare. Its just weird they both get sick in the same week, any ideas of what this might even be ? |

| Your poor doggies and you! What kind of food were they eating before? Did they do well with it? Do they get any other food/treats that might be making them sick? I would be concerned that the food switch is not agreeing with them, or something else they are eating is not agreeing with them. Did the vet do any blood tests?

| They were eating royal canin yorkie adult thier whole life, until 6 months ago when i switched them to royal canin vet satiety small dog, vet said they need to lose weight, but it was causing my boy yorkie to have his anal glands fill up and my ct yorkie to bloat and get gassy, so i switched it to the royal canin mini weight control 2 week ago. Since milo was sick tue i was told by the vet to do a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice an scrambled eggs for 5 days. The last few months all treats were cut out to lose weight except baby carrots, and theyd get boiled chicken everynow and then. They have a routine of hiding pedigree dentastix everynight but they dont eat them, they just go around the house hiding them.lol , they get other vegetables sometimes too, green beans, apple etc.. |

| Could they have gotten into anything in the house or yard? Plants? Any kind of poison that you may have out for insects or varmin? Any treats that could possibly be catching up with them? Save those bags of RC and contact the company and tell them about your sick dogs....they may very well test the food in that lot number to see if there is a problem with the food itself. |

| If your dogs have not had any recent blood work, I would do basic tests: a chemistry panel and a CBC. I would probably want to test for pancreatitis. I would leave out the scrambled eggs for the bland diet. Just do chicken and rice. I would hold all veggies and fruits. Sending positive thoughts for your doggies, and hoping you can get this figured out quickly.

| One more question: what meds did the vet give you?

| sorry i've been working alot and juggling the fur babies, thank goodness for my parents who have been watching them so they havent been alone at all the past week. milo was put on sulcrate oral suspension plus, famotidine and another pill, i forget its name, for anti vomiting. after a few days he made a huge turn around, hes my solid teapot 13lb yorkie lol. meesha my ct 7lb yorkie , she stopped vomiting, but ever since that vomit episode her breathing hast been the same. they did xrays and her trachea ,it hasn't collapsed much more, it is very very skinny in the area where her legs are, not the throat and not the chest. its in between. and she does have an enlarged heart now.She pushed for us to travel 7 hours away to a vet college to get a stent, she said she could have an episode any day now where i can't calm her down, she said its going to come to a point soon where a stent is my only option. but i really don't like the odds of that surgery, i asked her if she ever sent a dog from her clinic to get it ever and she said no.. she gave her prednisone for the next while, she said it'd clear any infection up too and said to still give her the collapsed trachea eilixir only once a day now instead of every 8 hours and see how she does on this. shes not my regular vet so thats all she wanted to do. i had to make another appointment tonight, thier nails were so long( my ct yorkie screams and wont let me cut her nails), while at the vet she had a really bad episode and they gave her some sort of injection in her back,i am home with her now, shes very drugged up and can't even walk i put her down on the floor and she fell over twice.. i've been laying in bed with her while she sleeps to make sure she keeps breathing because she's unusually not this quiet when breathing and she is laying like dead weight, 2 back legs sticking straight out. i think they od'd her a bit...thank goodness for my credit card, what an expensive week, i still have another upcoming appointment for milos itchy skin and an appointmen for a followup with meesha about her ct when my regular vet comes back. but i love them so much i'll put myself in as much debt as it takes to make sure they're ok. they're my children!i'm a single yorkie mom!haha, i never though loving 2 little animals this much was possible, i think i've been branded crazy dog lady now by everyone who knows me, but until they own a yorkie they'll never know how these cute little fur balls can wrap you around thier finger.i'll never put them on roayal canin mini ever again either, i'm not sure if that was the problem but just in case.i'm just so glad they got better from the vomiting!it was so scary! although i will aways be dealing with the stress of meeshas collapsed trachea, thanks for the positive thoughts and having others to talk to has helped me so much, i'm so glad i found this forum, although i'm not as active as i used to be due to work,it's helped me out so much throughout the years!thanks so much! |

| I really hope your little ones will be ok. I know you must be so scared. I think you are right, every one of us here understand what you and your babies are going through and want nothing more then to hear that they have recovered. Hopefully, they just picked up a bug and will be back to normal soon. I have noticed with my own little Yorkie that any time she needs any sort of medication, for anything..it seems to hit her harder then any other dog I've ever had. I dont know if its because they are so small and delicate. My puppy always needs a solid day to get back to normal after being on a new medication. I hope its the same for you. Sending prayers and positive thoughts. |

| It is my understanding that changing their diet immediately can hurt their stomach. You are supposed to switch it little by little. Mix in the two and feed it to them for about a week or more. My dog was hospitalized last night because she became almost unconscious after throwing up yellow liquid. It is important to rush them to the vet if that is the case because if they swallow it somehow it can cause water to go into their lungs and causing pneumonia. I hope all is well. Good luck and Praying for a speedy recovery. Last edited by XenaLee; 06-10-2015 at 05:59 PM. |
