| Tootsie may have Diabetes Insipidus My sweet foster girl, Tootsie, has yet another issue. She has been having excessive urination and it is very dilute. At first I did not know who was doing it. The pee pads were constantly soaked! One day I heard one of the pups barking and I went to see who it was .. Tootsie had followed me into my closet and was shut in. The floor was soaked with urine that was as clear as water! Mystery solved. I took her to my vet and we did a urine culture that came back positive for a UTI. She put Tootsie on antibiotics and it cleared. The next urine culture was negative but her specific gravity was .005 She contacted the specialist who said that an ultrasound should be done so I took Tootsie to GCVS this past week. She had blood work, urine culture and ultrasound done. Everything looked great but her specific gravity was .003 The specialist said that to put things into perspective, water is .000 Next step is a water deprivation test. I so hate this test. I had to do it with a foster years ago (he is now my granddog ) But, it could be central diabetes insipidus in which case it could be treated. Tootsie is going to meet potential adopters tomorrow. They also want to meet Kandi and Lovey. I hope that this does not stop them from their interest in Tootsie. They will take medical issues but if this cannot be treated, I fear it may affect things. It would be a wonderful home for any of the girls. I am going to schedule Tootsie for the week after next because Kandi is having hernia surgery at GCVS this coming week and the days that these can be done conflict a bit. So, the next week where I don't have other things to do will be best. I can focus on Kandi this week and Tootsie the next. I just hate that Tootsie may have this.

| Oh, no, Linda. I'm so sorry to hear this. Hopefully there are answers for little Tootsie on the horizon and she'll be feeling better again soon and I also hope this doesn't keep her from going to her new forever home. Poor baby!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Poor little Tootsie. How unusual to potentially have DI, sigh...and to have to do that dang test. I hope everything turns out okay. She will be in my thoughts, the little punkin'.

| Always something! There was a short time where DI was a possibility for Ry. I refused the test and told my vet to find another way.

| None that a vet would recommend, really. I was going to do a med trial first to try and avoid testing. Thankfully his pee started concentrating again though. They lose X amount of body weight due to dehydration, etc. I just couldn't. Hard call.

| I was going to ask about just doing that but had a feeling he would not be thrilled with it. I really DO hate the test but at this point I think it is fairly clear that she probably does have it and it would be good to know if it is central. Plus it makes it better for potential adopters to know. We don't like to adopt pups out with question marks.
