Default Tootsie may have Diabetes Insipidus

My sweet foster girl, Tootsie, has yet another issue. She has been having excessive urination and it is very dilute. At first I did not know who was doing it. The pee pads were constantly soaked! One day I heard one of the pups barking and I went to see who it was .. Tootsie had followed me into my closet and was shut in. The floor was soaked with urine that was as clear as water! Mystery solved.

I took her to my vet and we did a urine culture that came back positive for a UTI. She put Tootsie on antibiotics and it cleared. The next urine culture was negative but her specific gravity was .005

She contacted the specialist who said that an ultrasound should be done so I took Tootsie to GCVS this past week. She had blood work, urine culture and ultrasound done. Everything looked great but her specific gravity was .003
The specialist said that to put things into perspective, water is .000

Next step is a water deprivation test. I so hate this test. I had to do it with a foster years ago (he is now my granddog ) But, it could be central diabetes insipidus in which case it could be treated.

Tootsie is going to meet potential adopters tomorrow. They also want to meet Kandi and Lovey. I hope that this does not stop them from their interest in Tootsie. They will take medical issues but if this cannot be treated, I fear it may affect things. It would be a wonderful home for any of the girls.

I am going to schedule Tootsie for the week after next because Kandi is having hernia surgery at GCVS this coming week and the days that these can be done conflict a bit. So, the next week where I don't have other things to do will be best. I can focus on Kandi this week and Tootsie the next.

I just hate that Tootsie may have this.
