| Allergies and Atopica HI There, I dont know if anyone remember but my pup was having some issues some months ago that no one seemed to cure. Her symptoms included biting towards her butt, sticking her paws and body in her waterbowl, and running around non stop. No sleep for anyone. So I am at my third vet. Her anal glands were expressed and she's still displaying these symptoms He thinks it's allergies. She's on a grain free dry and hard food right now. He suggested that she goes on Atopica but said it takes up to 8 weeks to have affect so wants to put her on a steroid for a few weeks until the Atopica kicks in. Has anyone had experience with this medication and/or steriods? I'm worried but its been an ongoing issue since memorial day....she got a bit better after one vet put her on antibiotics for a couple weeks.... She's about 4lbs and 5 years old.

| My dog has been on Atopica for about 7 years. It's a miracle drug for her. She's almost 13, so she started at about age 6. In fall and summer I must keep her on it daily but in winter she can go to every other day. My dog had relief from Atopica within days. I'm not a fan of steroids, they can complicate atopy.

| I have friends who use Atopica for their allergic pups and they say it works well. I have no personal experience with it except that I used it on one of mine and it did not help. I am sure someone will be along to post about their success with it!

| I was told the steroids would only be until the atopica to kick in then she'd go off them? Is this typical. I'm happy to hear that you had positive results Barney ladyjane, what was your recourse when atopica did not help? Thanks for your replies

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have used Atopiac on Cali for severe allergies. After all the testing couldn't determine what she was allergic to and other medicines didn't help we put her on the Atopica. It's been a miracle for her. I cut her back to 1 very 3 days over the winter but in the summer I had to put her back on daily. When she first went on it she became sick, vomiting and lethargic so we waited a couple of weeks and started the Atopica again. This time her vet put her on a low dose steroid for 2 weeks and Cali had no side effects. Cali has been on it for about 5 years and is 8 years old and her blood work looks great each year. I hope it helps your baby. It is so miserable for them to be itchy all he time.

| My George has been on Temeril P for years. Many years ago I had the allergy testing done and found out that he is severely allergic to clover. Tried the injections, but he got so bad that I just could not see doing that. I had seen so many pups do well on Atopica that I decided to try it but, as I said, it just did not work for him. Now, he is back on the Temeril P... he takes a low dose every other day and we increase it during times he is worse.

My Marcel is on Atopica for pollen issues, and when he started Atopica we saw some symptom relief even after just 1.5 weeks. It's a few years later now, and he still does great on it. He now takes it MWF...and I may take him down to T TH in a while and see how he does. Atopica can be a little miracle for many dogs. Have you also thought about allergy testing eventually? What's nice about Atopica is that they can be on/stay on Atopica with allergy testing. Whereas they cannot be on steroids. Do you think it's pollen/seasonal...ie, do you notice the symptoms being worse at certain times of the year? Or are they year 'round? I do watch pollens in my area at pollen.com, and that helps. I keep track of symptoms vs present pollens.
