| My 16 week old Baby has Parvo I hate for this to be my first post but, I'm scared. I've had dogs my whole life and have always had them neutered, up to date on shots, heart worm and feed them good quality food. This is my first Yorkie. I got her from a breeder. She was vaccinated. Before I got her and three times since. Most recently this past Saturday 6/1/13. She was still too small for Rabies and I had not had her spayed yet. She's my first girl too. She got diarrhea Monday and then last night she started vomiting. I took her immediately to my vet. They said they have to keep her at least three days. It's expensive ad you all know. I called and the vet said she hasn't vomited, has eaten some food and is wagging her tail. Is that a good sign? I've got other dogs too. Know I've got to clean, clean and clean some more. I've been told to use Virkon and HealthGard for the laundry. Any comments would be appreciate. |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Great job on getting her to the vet! They'll likely keep her hydrated well and be able to treat the virus. Her behavior sounds very encouraging so use the time she's away to clean; don't forget to treat the yard if she was outside too. The breeder should be notified so that any littermates/other dogs can be checked out. There is hope. My daughter has a mixed breed (bigger dog) that was given 20% chance of survival because she couldn't afford hospitalization for him at the time. He lived, mainly because the dr treated the parvo and she kept him hydrated afterward. I'm sure others will comment too but I wanted to say good luck with her & welcome to yt! Glad you found us even under difficult conditions. Be sure to check out the other foruns (up top, left side of page). Oh yea...what's her name?

| Hi and welcome to YT. I am sorry that is has to be under such devastating circumstances. I also found YT for the first time when I first got Buster Brown and he was very ill as well. I wish I help with your Parvo questions but I really don't know. I just wanted to send hugs to you and prayers for your little girl. Best wishes for a successful recovery for your Yorkie.

YT 2000 Club Member | I don't have any answers to your questions regarding parvo, but I am sure others will be here before long that will. There is a wealth of information here at YT. I just wanted to let you know I am praying for your little yorkie.

| Sending prayers that your baby will be okay. Do you mind telling us how old your puppy is? The breeder may have started her shots to young and if so she would not have been protected.

| My Noah had parvo at 8 weeks. Hydration and antibiotics are key. Parvo can't be treated itself, but it causes infections that will need to be treated. Parvo is an intestinal virus. As the body tries to shed the virus, it sloughs off the intestinal lining as well and this can cause intestinal matter to leak out into the puppies body and cause sepsis and infection. Hydration, hydration, hydration. I can't stress that enough!! IV fluids are best, subcutaneous can help, an are less expensive but are not as good as IV. Anti nausea medicine will help too. Know it can get costly!! It cost us upwards of 7500.00 to keep Noah alive. I went everyday I could and sat with him and talked to him and tucked him in my shirt and danced with him.... Skin to skin contact works for preemie babies, so I tried it with him. Insist on a probiotic and blood counts. Watch the white blood cells. If needed, do a transfusion. Pray long and hard about this because like I said, it can get expensive to treat. You have to be committed to the care and treatment as well as the cost. I had 24 hour ICU vet care. You need to treat your house is you have other dogs, as well as your yard with bleach. Keep any other dogs away from your dog until the virus is shed (2-4 weeks). Message me if you need to.

| I am so sorry your little one has parvo, and will pray that he recovers. There was a recent thread about a member who had 2 pups with parvo, and they survived. There is a lot of good information shared in that thread, and one thing is the importance of keeping your pup away from grass, dirt, pet stores, etc. where they can get parvo for well beyond their last vaccinations. Here is the link: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ved-parvo.html
