| Mimi is in discomfort & IDK what it is! I made an appt for the vet @ 5:20pm, it's 11:50am now...I expressed Mimi's anal gland last night bc she kept looking back @ her bum, stuff only came out on 1 side. Could the other side be impacted & it's bothering her? I felt around the gland areas & it's not swollen or anything, can't feel anything once I expressed it. I always express her anals once or twice a week b4 her bath, my vet showed me how. Lately, it's been less, maybe once every 2 weeks. I try to be very gentle & use the 'milking' method when I express...I am so worried that I could've hurt her somehow, IDk how I can wait til 5:20! She's panting on & off (sign of pain?) keeps reaching & looking @ her bum. Pacing, her tail to one side, flicking her tongue in & out & gnawing on her paws...I also gave them their 1st application of Advantix II on Sun (4/21), could she be allergic to it (we switched from frontline plus)? Right now, she's resting on my lap. Please say a prayer for my baby girl, Thank you!

| I 4got to mention that I also switched their kibble to grain free Fromm surf & turf about 2 days ago. She's been having that only for dinner & is it a coincidence that she started gnawing on her paws & having anal gland issues?

| Poor Mimi. Hope she gets to feeling better soon. Sounds like her bum is bothering her for some reason. But I don't have a clue what it could be. As for the Advantix I would think that a reaction would have happened within the first 24 hours. Hang in there, I'll say a little prayer for you and Mimi both that you will have an answer and relief soon. Keep us posted.

| Has she been pooing like she should? I had some constipation problems with Bentley about a month ago and he really could get antsy and even yelp. I'll keep my fingers cross that she just needs a good poo.

She's eating, pooping fine & not vomiting, so I guess that's a good sign. I'm just so worried that I pinched a nerve or something when I was lifting up her tail to express her anal glands...something back there is obviously bothering her!

| I am so sorry that your baby is ill. Mina was not feeling well yesterday and I had to wait 6hrs before her apt. I just rocked her and if I had to do something my DD would rock her. I do hope that it is something that can be found quickly and helped. I know that it is going to be a long day. Have you tried applying a warm damp compress to Mimi's bottom? It might ease the discomfort. |

Never thought about that, if she will allow it, that I would think help ease her discomfort.

| It does sound as if her bum is hurting. I've heard that if you express the glands manually you have to keep it up because they don't do it themselves as well after that - and that the body kind of "forgets" to do it itself and can lead to chronically sluggish anals and even impactions. As a normally self-regulating gland, the anal normally takes care of that itself in a healthy dog. When I first got Tibbe, his anals filled up about 3 times in a row but eventually that stopped as he got regulated as to diet and much more exercise and he rarely scoots or bites at his rear since. So we don't routinely express his anals now and he's been doing well. I hope that you vet can get little Mimi diagnosed, treat her and get her feeling good again. I'll be praying there is nothing like an impaction or infection going on.

| When my human kids feel bad, stomach, constipation, itchy, anything, a nice warm bath does wonders. Maybe she will sit in a warm bath for a bit. Baths are very soothing... |

| Don't forget - a lot of dogs hate baths! My Jilly lived to age 13 and feared each bath like the plague. People love baths but not all dogs do, even when the water is warm and soothing.

| Oh no. I'm so sorry Mimi is in discomfort right now. I am wondering if the food switch is causing her some itchiness down there or something. I probably wouldn't give her a bath, but maybe place a warm, moist washcloth on her bum area? I know it is hard to wait, but it is good they are getting you in today. Hang in there! You are doing all you can do. She knows her mommy loves her. Prayers for Mimi!!

| LOL. I can just see them. Jilly used to do that. I'd start getting things ready and Jilly disappeared. I would find her hiding somewhere in the far part of the house.
