| I'm sorry - it's so frustrating when you don't know exactly what is wrong. This sounds very similar to what we went thru with my dads dog, Buddy. Here was the thread- http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...oting-etc.html To be honest, we never figured it out. He hasn't done it in a while. So I guess we'll just see when it happens again.

| Mimi had to have her anal glands emptied via finger insertion! Anal gland (1 on the left side) was full (I mentioned earlier that only 1 side came out when I expressed it) & the right side was not full, but it was very pasty. The vet also said her licking the air was a sign of nausea & Mimi was salivating a little too, so she was prescribed some pepcid. The vet also said they have a laser treatment to heal the irritated anal area & reduce inflammation. It needs to be done twice a week for 2 weeks (or was it 1 week?) & then once a week there after. Ea/treatment is $35 & she said they've had positive results. I passed on this procedure, want to see if she'll be ok & if she doesn't improve, then we'll have to do it...maybe. I'll have to research it as I've never heard of it b4 & don't want to jump into it. Anyone heard about this laser treatment? She's still looking back @ her bum & is acting agitated. Apparently, Mimi has lost all muscle movement there to release anything on her own...she never scoots, I never saw her do that, she'll let me know that it needs to be expressed by licking there. I guess expressing them from the outside was not good enough. There's no infection from what the vet can see but we did a full blood test & urinalysis just in case. Will have the results tomorrow after 2pm. Thank you everyone for your good wishes & prayers! Mimi is gonna take a bath tomorrow, they put some stinky perfumey spray on her butt & I had to rinse it off. Will keep you updated on her test results.

| Oh bless her heart. I seem to recall hearing about some sort of treatment like what you are talking about, but I for the life of me can't remember what I heard and where. I am with you..I would just stay on top of it manually unless it gets worse..and research it. I am curious now so I'll probably do some looking. If I find anything worth while, I will post it here for you and everyone. I'm sure all of that is just still affecting her bum. She'll probably quit being so aggitated in a day or so. Great job getting her in there like you did!!

| Another, wow laser therapy is even used to help feline asthma, pancreatitis & IBD! Veterinary Practice – News-December 2012-Comp : More Laser Therapy Case Reports but not so good for the dog anal gland sacculitis: This treatment was remarkably successful in the first week but was continued over two weeks in an attempt to delay recurrence. I don't think Mimi has anal gland sacculitis (this is something I need to read up on), vet didn't say it was...the laser therapy is to just help reduce inflammation & irritation. Don't think she'll need it, but will see how she does in the next few days. Vet wants to see her again if she doesn't show improvement in 7 days.

| So glad Mimi got some relief. I'm so happy it was not more serious than it could have been. Keep us posted.

| Good & Bad news...Mimi's complete blood work & urinalysis all came back in normal range but vet suspects that Mimi has anal gland sacculitis. Vet wants Mimi to come in & have the laser therapy treatment or get an anti-inflammatory shot. I won't be able to take her in til Sat, so will see how she does tomorrow. It's still bothering her & she keeps looking back & putting her tail to the left. She's also licking the air a lot & I think it has to w/her behind bothering her. Other than that, she's still got a good appetite, going to the bathroom normally & loving her evening walk! Anyone have experience w/anal gland sacculitis?

| Well, now you've got a diagnosis and treatment, I'll be Mimi is going to feel better soon and then get some more treatment even. I'm glad to hear there is some way to help her and make her feel better.

| I'm so sorry to hear that Mimi is not feeling well. Do you have a heating pad? If so, you can put a wet cloth inside the pocket and let her sit/sleep on it at the lowest setting. That might help to soothe her bum! I pray she gets some relief very soon!!
