Donating YT 30K Club Member | Any experience with acid reflux in their yorkie? Roxie has been throwing up occasionally. She otherwise acts fine before and after. It's usually a couple hours after a meal. She will just throw up a little liquid mixed with bits of food. She gives no warning like retching just up it comes. I am taking her to her vet Friday. I can't get her in sooner as her vet is out of town and I want to see her not another vet in the practice. So I am just thinking it may be acid reflux. I have switched foods and it hasn't helped. If anyone has experience with this I would just like to hear. Thanks

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks Nancy. I will go get some today. How did they diagnose it in your little one?

| Throwing up or regurgitating? Does she heave before? Yes, Ellie has an esophageal acid problem.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | No she doesn't heave at all, it just comes up no warning.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | He was having problems at night, a little vomiting but there were noises too. The vet just thought it was a simple way to find out if that was the problem, and it worked.

| Is she having any gas from switching foods? Sometimes when they need to burp, if there's food in front of the gas , the food will come up too. Any bloating in her tummy before it happens? You could try holding her upright... this position allows the gas to escape and the food to stay in the stomach.

| When Tibbe's tummy acts up and he's gassy, has loud bowel sounds and jumps from gas pain, he also can belch and then licks and swallows, as if he's just regurgitated a bit of stomach contents into his trachea or something. Occasionally he will spit up a small amount of the yellowish bile foam and always refuses food during this time. The vet has me give him 1/2 an infant dose of Mylicon drops and 1/4 tablet of Pepcid 20 mg. once or twice in a 24 hour period. If he does belch like that, later he might seem to be starting to reverse sneeze a time or two. The vet said that could be from his tracheal irritation from the bile he's belched up and that the Pepcid will help. And it does seem to do just that. Even on his Hill's I/D GI, he has an episode like this every 12 days or so and is lethargic during this time. His last labworks were normal but it's time for a comprehensive exam with labs so I think I'm getting a BAT just to see if anything is going on. I can't get him off Hill's I/D GI because of this - too scared he'll just get all gassy and belch, RS, lie about not feeling well but he's not normal this way. I sure hope he's not dealing with something serious. Sure hope you can find out what is going on with Roxie and get her feeling better. Keep us updated on what the vet says.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks. Roxie is almost impossible to get pills down. I have tried everything and she still spits it out. I am going to see if her vet can give me a liquid medicine. She doesn't act gassy or bloated. I have never heard her tummy make noises either like i did when Cali had tummy problems. She is eating fine, playing like usual nothing other than the random vomiting. I am going to have lab work done since I think it's been about a year since her last labs. I get them yearly on all of mine just to stay on top of any potential issue. I will let you know what her vet says.

| Best to get the esophagus xrayed and possibly ollow up with a barium xray. Megasophagus and the like should be ruled out before medicating long term. Reglan is used for this and comes in a liqud.

| Sorry Roxie has an occasional regurg problem. I agree that it is wise to check on her at the Vet to look for any underlying health condition. But as she seems healthy I wonder if the problem could be helped by feeding smaller kibble? A long shot I know! My boy is greedy, eats fast and does not chew his kibble. When I changed to the same kibble formula in Small Bite rather than Adult Size, he did not regurgitate. On the Adult sized kibble he would regurg a few whole kibble bits in the stomach liquid that did not look well digested. I thought that if the pieces were smaller they may break down more easily, and so far it seems to work. Good luck with your baby and I pray that the tests are normal and no disease is found. |

| Charlie had problems with reflux that was aggravated by fish oil that was sprinkled on her food. Her symptoms were arching her back and walking on her tip toes like she was bloated. The solution was to feed her a little bit of kibble with a 1/4 tab of pepcid and then to add the fish oil to the food roughly 30minutes later. She has not exhibited symptoms since. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I thought Marcel had reflux for a while...he would swallow hard sometimes and it seemed like he was having some reflux. I put him on Reglan for a while, and that helped. I then took him off of it, and haven't seen reflux in a long while now....knock on wood.

| Patti, that was the only thing that I could put a finger on with Teddy Bear. He had occasional vomiting and I thought it was food and switched him to canned food. He still vomited on occasion. I would give him the famotidine and he would be ok. I am the first one to get to a vet with issues so I can tell you this was not a lot of vomiting. Now, after the liver shunt was found, I am wondering if this was a symptom...most likely was. Don't want to scare you, but honestly I would speak with the vet about it.

| Turbo did this for awhile. He would throw up yellow bile, so I thought he was hungry, so I would give him a fruitable biscuit treat. Then he would throw up the treat. Sometimes he would throw up his kibble from the morning. I took him to the vet numerous x's & he was fine. Vet prescribed liquid tagamet, but I didn't give it to him bc I didn't think it was stomach ulcer or acid. It turns out, he was intolerant of the pumpkin or something in the fruitable! I always gave them 1 b4 bed & another between meals...he would always throw up in the early mornings & afternoon, couple of hrs after eating the friutable. Now he doesn't throw up @ all. Wonder if Roxie is intolerant of something in her new food? Didn't you switch recently & what are you feeding them now?
