| Real problem, need opionions?? As most of you know Tina is 14 and suffers from CHF, plus she has dementia. She will walk through their water bowls getting them dirty 50 times a day. I can not keep their water clean because of this. We have tried every kind of water bowl imaginable. We have even put the water bottles you attach to your wall. The others will not drink from it. All of them drank from one when they were little and in their kennal and now they will not touch it. What can we do??? I know it is bound to be full of germs from her feet and sometimes she even falls in the water. Bless her heart, I know she can't help it and yet I don't want Kayla, Lexi and Dudley to get sick. Dudley has had 2 bouts of toncillitus since June and I am wondering if this could be the cause. I keep a constant watch and yet you can't change the water enough. Help.... |

| Could a water bottle, like you use in a crate help? You would have to teach everyone to use it which could cause more frustration on your part, but it is the only suggestion that I could think of. Hope you find a solution. |

| Have you tried elevated their bowls? Or how about offering it every 1-2 hours?

| It's so hard when the little ones start to have issues like this Have you tried a raised bowl? The one I linked it probably too high but they sell all different sizes. Tray Top Elevated Dog Bowls - Small, Pet Feeder, RDB14

| I think the elevated bowls would be a good idea, use a stool for the other dogs to get up on to reach it (assuming that the 14 yr old can't do it) and since she will drink out of a water bottle, do that for her!

| Awww, bless her little heart I have heard that a schmear of peanut butter on the water bottle nozzle will get reluctant dogs to drink from the bottle. My two have been bottle babies since they were really little, so I didn't really have to try to make them use it, they just did, so I don't know if that works or not. Good luck!

| I would think an elevated feeder might work. I am sorry....it is so hard to watch them age.

| The big water bottle is what we put on the wall out in the laundry room and the problem with that too, besides them not touching it, if its the right size for Lexi, its up too tall for Dudley. We have tried the raised bowls but Tina has got where she climbs. She even turned them over. Its the hardest thing I have ever gone through and I have gone through cancer and diabetes with 2 of my babies. She has no idea what she is doing at times and she is just about literally tearing the house apart. She chewed the electrical chords to our Sleep number bed. She got over behind the tv., dresser and is now obessed with getting behind the fridge. We have had to raise electrical chords and tape them and just about the time you think you have every hole fixed, she finds another one. She will literally fight you at times, hitting with her front paws. I know our friends think we are crazy but she still knows somethings and we just can't bring ourselves to put her down. I guess there is really no answer. I will just have to keep changing water every hr. on the hr. and mopping. lol!! Bless her little baby heart, it hurts to see her like that when I know what she use to be like. Thanks everyone. I just thought maybe something might could be done. |

| If she has begun chewing on things that could be a danger to her,you might consider putting an expen in the middle of your den. She would be able to see everyone,be part of what is going on and not be able to reach electrical cords. You might let the other dogs take turns with her in the pen. We have a 15yr old dog here and the senior citizen stuff can be very trying. He weighs almost half of what he used to (big dog), his back hips are almost gone and he is beginning to show nerve damage in his feet (walking on the tops of his back feet),we have to convince him that he is supposed to eat,he gets hand fed twice a day. However he still loves to attempt to play with the little dogs and he still gets very excited about treats. I hope that you will find a solution so that there will be peace in your home. |
