| Teddy is having an allergic reaction We think Teddy was bit by an unknown insect. It happened at 2:30 AM - Teddy started to scratch the back of his neck. There was a lump and I thought maybe it was his collar so I took it off. I saw it was red and irritated so I put a topical ointment on it. We went back to bed and he was restless so I took him downstairs and using a cookie for collateral I was able to check him out more -- his face and neck was swelling but he had no hives and was acting normal. So I was like do I go to the ER or not? Well as I was pondering it, he fell asleep. So I watched him for a while and all seemed fine and the swelling was going down. This morning he again seemed fine. I ran an errand and came back and his eyes were red and his face swollen again. I'm at the vet now - they are working on him giving him steroid and benadryl. He's all lumpy and bumpy and it's not a classic presentation so they are drawing blood. My little bumpkins!!!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I wonder if his medication could be aggravating the bug bite? It seems weird that the swelling comes back and forth. Poor Teddy, and poor you! I hope they find out the problem. Sending prayers your way.

| Teddy is staying the day :( Teddy's eyes look better, but he is still lumpy and bumpy in his throat and neck. His blood work came out normal so this does seem to be just an allergic reaction to some sort of bug. He is admitted to the hospital under observation for the day, just in case of anything. My poor little Teddy.

| Glad to hear he is improving and bloodwork is normal. It's not fun to be at the hospital, but it best to be there with the doctors, just in case.

| That swelling in the neck would have sent me straight to the ER vet! I am so scared of shock and cutting off breathing fast when a reaction occurs. I am so glad he didn't go immediately into not being able to breathe and is under close observation and some good treatment now. God bless little Teddy and I hope he is going to be fine. Can they send you home with something to use if this same bug bites again - when his reaction may be exacerbated?

| Cathy how scary! I hope that the worst is over with Teddy and that he'll be home in no time. Ironically a similar thing happened to Max last night. He ate something unknown outside and ran in the house shaking his head and strangely licking his lips. It lasted about 2 hours but ended after hosing his mouth out with water and giving him food & ice to get down any possible objects. Always scary stuff with these boys.

| Well mine had a coughing/gagging episode off and on for about 10 minutes and I was getting ready to get concerned when it just stopped. I guess he had a hair or something in his throat and he finally dislodged it - but I was already thinking about getting him to the vet when it stopped.
