| Zoe has hip dysplasia We took Zoe our little Shorkie to the vet a couple of weeks ago because she was kind of lethargic and wouldn't eat or drink. The vet took a blood test and an xray and said that things looked okay but she has a slight hip dysplasia. She showed us the xrays. She told us not to worry but to keep her weight down to avoid problems in the future. She's about 12 lbs and the vet says she's just the right weight. The vet said that she had some kind of a stomach upset and gave her a pepcid and sub fluids because she was kind of dehydrated. The day after she was fine and she's been fine ever since. New week she is going for her rabies vaccination. The vet says she wants to do a follow up blood test to make sure that everything is okay. I'm a little upset about the hip dysplasia though. I think the stomach problem was because she had gotten into the cat food. Anybody know anything about hip dyspasia? |

| Our two year old Viszla was diagnosed as a pup. My husband wanted to do agility with her, but that's out. It really doesn't bother her and she gets joint supplements everyday. |

| I have a pup with bilateral hip dysplasia. He was evaluated by a board certified orthopedic surgeon who said that he probably will never have issues with these hips. The larger pups are the one that have issues. Smaller pups can usually live with them without any problems.

| My Mylee has hip displasia. She ended up having to have the FHO surgery, but I think her case is more uncommon than most for small dogs, as the smaller dogs do have their size in their favor. She's doing pretty well now though.

| Thanks for your words of encouragement. I was really nervious when the vet told me. She runs and plays very well but has a bit of problem jumping on the bed. We think it's because she is a bit of a drama queen though. When nobody is around she gets on the bed fine but as soon as she sees us she cries for us to pick her up. I just hope the vet diagosed her right and she'll have no real problems if we keep her weight down. |

| Thanks we do have steps by the bed and the sofa but she wont use them for whatever reason. We don't let her strain getting on the bed or sofa, we pick her up and sometimes we take her off but mostly she jumps down. I do worry about her because she is only 14 months old and I don't want anything to happen to her. I'm just glad she is not a big eater and she will never get really fat and she's pretty active. I'm going to ask the vet next Saturday if she should be getting some kind of joint suppliment. |

| We took Zoe and my baby shih tzu Oliver to the vet on Saturday. They also did some blood work on her and the problem she had with the high numbers in the last blood test were normal again. The vet said it was probably a stomach virus that through everything off. I think there is something wrong with their scales though because when we took her in mid January she was 12 lbs and Saturday when she was weighed the vet says she was 16 1/4 lbs. I just can't see her gaining 4 lbs in a month. She is not the best eater in the world. Oliver who was 3 1/2 lbs in December according to their scales is 6 1/4 lbs. Is it possible for dogs to gain that much weight in such a short time or are their scales off? Just cuious. |
