| Severe Vomiting - Now Constipated Starting a week ago, my 3yr old yorkie had severe vomiting and then awful diarrhea. He went to the emergency room on Sunday night and they found he had low protein levels and slight stomach pain. We left with antibiotics and to just wait and see how he did. He seems to be doing a lot better since Sunday and has been eating, drinking, playing, etc. However, he has not had a bowel movement since Sunday and I was wondering how long is normal after such a severe illness? Should we take him back to the vet today or just wait for nature to take its course? The only reason I'm hesitant about taking him to the vet is because it stresses him out and always seems to upset his stomach. Thanks for the help! Last edited by hdpt00; 01-20-2011 at 12:03 PM. |

| I'm not going to say to not be concerned because it has been awhile. A few days is fine after something like this. If he is straining or throwing up, that isn't okay. I'd call the vet tonight or tomorrow morning at the latest to see what they think.

| I would give the vet a call. When Sammy had a bout of diahrea last summer the vet put him on antibiotics and after the diahrea stopped he didn't poop for 2 days. I was concerned and called the vet and she said 3 days would be OK after diahrea, then that night he finally pooped normally much to my relief. |
