And what was the outcome?

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Giardia lives and reproduces in their intestines and is shed in feces. It will survives if there is enough moisture present. It's likely how your pup contracted it...it's contagious so one easily gave it to another. Be sure to do a through cleaning at your house.

| I picked out a terrier mix from our local shelter many years back. I always have taken my puppies immediately to the Vet and she had Giardia. For about one month I thought sure I would lose her. Every day when I came home from work I was afraid of what I would find. She died at 17. I put her on rice and cottage cheese for weeks and slowly added kibble until she could tolerate kibble alone. It was tough and slow going but we prevailed. The only thing is she had a finicky tummy her whole life but she lived and was possibly the best dog I've ever had. |

| I had to deal with this for many years. All of my dogs were infected. They would take madication for long periods then everything tested OK but months later it would return again. Hope you can get it eradicated. BTW they have never been around any stagnant water. They don't even go into the yard. I blame it on bird droppings but don't really know for sure. They are only let out onto our deck and one doesn't ever go outside except when I carry her |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Giardia is awful. Marcel had it twice as a pup. Wylie only had a soft stool for about a day, since he was an adult - many adults will not get any symptoms. But for puppies, it can life threatening - and it can cause probs down the road bc giardia will actually start to digest sm. intestinal tissue and damage the area. That's a mess for months. Try to clean whatever you can w/ bleach water. Wash all bedding ecetera. It can be tough to get rid of, but you will eventually.

| Sissy had it twice as an older puppy (7 & 9 months). She became anorexic with it as well. Definitely difficult to get rid of completely and once they've had it, they are susceptible to getting it again and stress is a major trigger. I would get started on a good probiotic right away to help the intestinal system stay healthy. Now at 3 years old, Sissy is dealing with early stage Protein Losing Enteropathy as a result of the giardia she had as a pup.

| Buster had giardia as a pup when we got him at 12 weeks. They found it on his first exam the day after we got him, and at that time he didn't have much of an appetite. It was tough to tell, though, whether it was the change in environment or the giardia that decreased his appetite. Either way, he got a little skinny while we were treating him. We put him on a week's dose of Flagyl, and he's been clear ever since. That stuff worked wonders for him. |

| The problem with Giardia is that they make cysts in the intestine which the Flagyl (Metronidizol) cannot eradicate after the dose is given they can return
