Donating YT 14K Club Member | Since they're community fish, you could add just about any other type of social fish. Stay away from the meat eaters, though.

| Actually, I wouldn't add much of anything.. other than another goldfish or two. Check with your pet store... some carry small cat fish that can be kept with goldfish.. you just have to make sure they overwinter well. Community/Tropical fish should not be mixed with goldfish. Also, tropical fish wouldn't make it year-round since it gets so cold in NY in the winter. ETA: You could add a few native tadpoles.. not sure if it's to late in the season for that though. | Watch out for tadpoles that grow into big frogs. They'll eat your fish We have a little pond out back that dh put in about 8 years ago. We just have goldfish....but this year (for the first time) we have babies!!!! Lots and lots of babies. Didn't even think that was possible in a backyard pond

| you could get a plecostomus, those are super easy and and they love algae which you should have a lot of in a pond type setting so your pleco will be happy and get nice and big. You should also look into getting some sort of bottom feeder like a catfish because goldfish can be very messy. This website has a wonderful fish compatability chart: http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/f...lity_chart.cfm Check out this website for some ideas: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...fm?pCatId=1105 I personally love turtles and want a turtle tank really bad but I heard they can be very mean with fish.

| I woudl actually think being that she is in new york and they have really cold winters she will probobly need to move all the fish in for winter. A pond in new york would defiently freeze (I would think). And yes plecos would need to come inside for cold weather.

| Thats good to know, I was just told this at a fish store once. You never know if the people really know what they are talking about though at those places . What kind of turtle do you have? They were telling me the red ear sliders can be mean to other fish. I really want a soft shell turtle which is something you cant find in most fish stores. I had one growing up and he was awesome. We had him in a tank with a newt and they did wonderfully together.

| If the pond is 2 feet (I believe) or deeper, the goldfish would do fine over the winter.. the pleco would not. |

| in NY also Hi, I am in New York also... Our pond does freeze in the dead of winter, but our Koi seem to stay at the bottom and most of them make it...we try to keep the stream running for airflow. Debbie Last edited by dbeach; 07-27-2007 at 08:17 AM. |
