| Update On Maggie You may remember my cat, Maggie with her UTI. The meds didn't take it away and now she has blood in her urine. I took her back to the vet today and they said she had a lot of blood in her bladder. So, she is on a different kind of antibiotic now and then they want to do the tests over again ($102.00 + meds if needed) and take an x-ray for another $125.00. They want to do an x-ray cause they think she has kidney stones and they don't show up very well on the ultra sound. If she has kidney stones, that means surgery. I will spend money on my dogs - one already had surgery that cost over $1,000 - but I don't know about the cat. I know that sounds horrid and will tick some of you off, but that's where I'm at. It's a lot of money considering the stones could come back and we would have to do this all over again. They talked about putting her on Hill's prescription diet, which I DO NOT want to do. Has anyone dealt with this in your cat? What did you do? Anything different than what has been proposed to me? I am so bummed. |

| Mine had a UTI just recently. I found her in her litterbox straining and she left behind some blood. The antibiotics cured her. They wanted me to bring her in for a 2nd visit to re-test her (of course!) but I didn't because I can see she is well. No more straining, no more blood, and she's fattening up again and looking fine. Maybe the new abx your cat is on will help her. How old is she? |

| oh, i forgot to say they didn't find Crystals in my cats urine, so it was just a UTI. Did they find Crystals in yours? |

She is almost 4 years old. No, they didn't mention crystals. I wasn't going to bring her in for the recheck either till I saw the blood. The vet said that's why they want them back cause it is pretty common for it not to go away after the first round of antibiotics. So, this one she's on now is stronger and given just once a day. (thank goodness) We'll see how it works... thanks

| Oh, if no Crystals then she probably has no stones. Probably the new abx will be all thats needed to cure her. I am not sure of the name of abx mine was put on, but it was just once a day pills. And I agree with you!! Thank GOD!!! Their teeth are sharper than needles! I had to cut a latex glove fingers off, and put a two layers of glove fingers on my index finger to put the pills in her throat (so the sharp teeth wouldn't cut me!). LOL!.... I threw away my "pill popper" when my 18 year old siamese passed on. So it was just me & my fingers givin' the pills. I was so glad when those 14 days passed. It was funny.... they will hide them in their cheek like a drug addict in a recovery hospital hides their meds... then spit them out later. LOL!! I had to watch her like a hawk to make sure she swallowed it. And rubbed her neck until I was sure it went down. I sit on mine... I put the cat between my knees and then give the pill that way. I wish someone had taken a pic! |

| Boy, would I have liked to seen pics of that! I got one of those pill poppers this time but I can't get the dang pill to stay in the rubber tip. Yep, I had some bloody fingers on the last round of meds. Darn cat. When the vet told me more meds, I must have gotten a weird look on my face cause she asked me if it had gone badly last time. My cat will not eat any kind of people food - no matter what it is, so I can't disguise it. I think cats are too smart for that anyhow. Oh well, what we won't endure for these fuzzy creatures we own. |

| LOL. After all that talk about how hard it is to get Maggie to take pills, she made a total liar out of me. I picked her up this morning and put her on the grooming table, put her in my bear hold and was about to pry open her mouth and she just opened her mouth and let me put the pill in!! I was totally shocked. Go Maggie. |

| Depending on the type of stones the vet suspects, the Science Diet might be a good idea. There are one or two SD foods that can somehow break up atleast one kind of stone. I hate SD also, but if it would avoid surgery, I would consider it.

Gosh, I love giving pills to cats (not!!). You are right, they are too smart - you cannot trick them with food like a dog.

Your cat sounds way too smart for her own good. Now with our bigger dog, I wrapped up two pills in cheese this morning and - poof - down the hatch it went. So easy... Now I am off to pill the cat again.

| Teri - I am so very sorry that Maggie is not feeling well. I hope this second round of meds takes care of the problem. Have you tried putting a bit of butter on the pills? It helps them slide down. Give Maggie a hug.... |

| Thanks Cindy. Butter, eh? Ok, how do you hang onto the pill when it's so slippery?????? I may try it tomorrow - this could be pretty funny. |
