I've been on and off it for about a year now but the side effects are about to ruin my marriage I go to the dr to change the meds monday but I just wanted to see if anyone else had some of the side effects.

| I've been on and off antidepressents since I was 13. Prozac was one of the ones I hated. It made me numb to everything. I didn't laugh, I couldn't cry. It was horrible. What problems are you having with it? And what sort of side effects? They all work differently for people. That's the hardest thing about antidepressents is sometimes it takes a few different ones before you find one that works for you. And for most people, it generally takes 4 - 6 weeks for the results to show up. Very frustrating.

| I was on it years ago, I hated it and ended up taking myself off it. I didn't so much feel I would commit suicide but was always thinking of different ways I could do it if I wanted to, and I would have had these weird feelings in my chest and felt like my heart was beating in my throat if that makes any sense. |

| It is doing fine for the stress and the PMDD but it has started to make me absolutely not want sex. Very stressful for my husband to understand.

| That's what I read while researching this so I'm going to ask my dr about taking it. Do you have any side effects from it? I only know one other person on it and she has had trouble sleeping from it

| Not that I've ever noticed. I just checked the side effects and sleep issues isn't one of them. There's a lot of different things that can cause sleep issues. (I've gone through that whole course too ) I've been diagnosed with seasonal affected disorder. So I take it from September-ish to March or April, then go off it for Spring and Summer. I can totally tell a difference when I'm not taking it and should be and when I am taking it. I take 150 mg a day. I'm supposed to take it morning and evening but meh, I never remember the morning and the 150 mg works just fine for me.

| I was on Wellbutrin awhile ago and YES, it did affect my sleep sometimes. I felt like all my muscles were tensed up. It only happened occasionally, but it wasn't pleasant. Other than that I had no side effects.

| I tried wellbutrin and I hated it. My mom takes it and loves it. I guess you never know till you try it. I didn't have any sexual side effects. I did have chest pain really bad, panic attacks daily, and it just made me crazy in general. I argued with hubby that I thought I was a monkey. I told my dr. no more of this stuff! I scared myself. It helped so much with my depression, I was to busy trying to be a monkey that I didn't have enough time to be depressed.

| Prozac works well but the main compliant is the lack of sexual drive as you found out. This side effect bothers some people more than others. If the Prozac is working well for you in all other aspects, then you could try Paxil, Lexapro, Celexa, or Zoloft, all of which are SSRIs similar to Prozac. I also like Wellbutrin because it doesn't cause as many problems with reduced sexual drive or weight gain, however, it is a NDRI and is not as effective for some people. If you have trouble sleeping, then you could try Trazodone in addition to one of the SSRIs. Trazodone is also an antidepressant but has a side effect of drowsiness and is generally taken before bedtime. It works well with SSRIs and can also help control anxiety. It is also sometimes used for insomnia.

| I HATE prozac!! It was the first thing given to me to try and help with my panic attacks...then there is a list of others they tried..in the end I am on nothing and like it that way...none of those drugs are worth ruining my sanity or your marriage.. Dawn |

| I am on Prozac with good results. I did have a lack of interest in sex for awhile, but raising my hormones (Premarin) helped solve that issue. So, it's hard to tell if it was a side effect of the Prozac or a problem with my hormone levels. I have to say that I had no idea how depressed I was until I started getting treatment. It was the best thing I've ever done for myself, my marriage and my family. Not to mention the students I teach. My husband told me that he would MUCH rather have me happy even if I wasn't as interested in sex.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I used to be on Prozac - it was a saviour in terms of a deep depression I sank into. But, wow, did it kill my libido - which was depressing in itself! I tried Wellbutrin too - and it was great! But it sort of stopped being effective and I didn't want to increase the dosage so I elected to go off of it. It may be worth a try for you. If the Prozac does work for your depression, what many docs will do is lower the Prozac dose and add the Wellbutrin - so that the sexual side effects MIGHT go away. Another thing to look into is the older medications for depression - tricyclics and such - which can work very well for some people. Some of them cause drowsiness, so you take them at night - which is a plus for sleep trouble.

| The prozac works fine on my "depression" I quote that because I'm not suicidal, or sad, it helps to control my temper. Without it the slightest thing can irritate the crap out of me (with two boys that's an everyday thing). My husband and kids definiately like me better on something but the no sex drive side effect is more than my husband can handle. I've been on zoloft and did not like it, I slept all the time and it made me numb to everything, i was in a state of "oh the house is burning down? ok" Not a good place to be. I'm hoping to try the wellbutrin or whatever the dr. wants to put me on because I can't handle this effect, I miss my husband too much not to try to change the meds.
