| DIY Tile? I really want to tile my raised back porch because there is icky indoor outdoor shag carpeting yuckiness out there at the moment. The furbabies apparently think it is fun to pee out there , and I just hate the way it looks. Just wondering if any of you have tiled yourself, how hard it is, how long it takes, ect Thanks! |

| my husband just retiled our bathroom. it's not the same, but it didn't take long. you will be better off b/c you are laying tile on the "floor." i'm not sure if you will need to scrape away the glue or not. the guy at lowes in our area was super helpful in picking grouts and glazes and tools necessary. i recommend (HIGHLY) some comfy knee pads and some big old cheap buckets to stir in. also, decide how far apart you want the tile to be. the farther apart, the more you will see the grout. o! also, my mom told me when picking carpet to pick a color that is close to the color of the dirt in our yard. you may want to consider this with your grout. (of course the white looks nice, but only for a little while!) it's going to look great! |

| Tiling is really easy, I have done lots of it but only indoor. I have only used ceramic tile. It is the easiest to cut. All you need is a tile cutter and maybe some nippers. They now make ceramic that looks like stone. The only thing I would be cautious of is that ceramic tile is porous, it can absorb water, and URINE. You will need to apply a good sealer to the grout. I suggest you stop by your local home store and find out which products are recommended for your application and pet issues. You may need to go with a stone tile, in which case you will need to rent a wet saw to cut it unless the area you are tiling will be a perfect fit for the size tiles you are using. The likelihood of that is slim to none in my opinion. You might also consider using pavers or decking wood. Good luck and have fun! I wish I lived closer, I would come help you!
