| Starting a doggie daycare I was just curious if anyone on here owns their own doggie daycare or knows anything about starting one? I'm starting to think this might be the right career path for me but I don't know a thing about doing it. Also, if someone out there does know a little about it, what's better...owning your own or being part of a franchise? Any good books about starting one out there? |

| Sorry, I don't know..if it was me i'd start my own cause i'd like to be in charge of everything and not be on a leash with franchise rules. Good luck though! |

| You might want to start with your local Chamber of Commerce and they will have all kinds of information to help get you started. There's a lot to starting any kind of business where you have people/dogs coming and going. Being insured, bonded...all kinds of things they will be able to help advise you on. Some even do a market research to see if one is really needed in your area.

| I've thought about it especially because I think there is a need in our area. I even have my name picked. There is one down on Broadway but I don't think I'd leave my dogs there. You'd have to have a really good location with yard. My concern would be the risk factor and what kind of insurance coverage you'd need.

| I imagine the insurance would be very high. I think you would need alot of personal injury. Maybe something for theft or lost/sick dogs. Definately check into the insurance/responsibility thing!!!Good luck!!! Lynn |

| This is where Sam goes to daycare -- and I think its important they have all inclusive prices instead of paying $5 extra if you want your baby cuddled... www.tailwaggerscountryinn.com And the day I win the big lottery -- Im quitting buying some land and opening our own! LOL

| I would also check with your city hall, I know the daycare has to be in a zoned area that does not have animal limits. Good luck! |

| I would go to the Chamber of Commerce, theres certain rules that you would have to follow whether you are by yourself or with a franchise. Good luck on your new business venture. |

| If you have never done this, which is what I gather from your first post I would suggest getting a job at an existing one to get your "feet wet". Try to work in every aspect of the business, from the office side to the actual dog interactions. Being on your own there is more reward and also more headache because everything comes back to you, a franchise on the other hand basically has a manual that you follow but cuts in on your personal profit. |

| TiggerWit- Have you been inside of that one on Broadway? It's Absolutely Disgusting. A) All the dogs are confined into one chainlinked area inside, B) It doesn't look like anyone supervises the dogs playing, C) It smells, and D) they have horrible hours anyways 7:30-5. I personally have to be to work at 6:30 and don't get home until 6. We really need a great doggy daycare in the Everett area. And you're absolutely right, it has to be a place with a great big yard in it. Doggy Haven in Bothell has an awesome facility you should check out their website. |

| I've never been in but just driving by was enough to tell me not too. It's gross. I think my friend took his lab to Doggy Haven this summer. I think he has mixed feelings about it. He is very specific on what he gives his dog and how much she eats. They must have double fed her because all the food was gone and she was huge!!! She also had a scrape on her leg.
