It's a radical way for them to get attention. It's really sick. Many states are working on bills making it illegal to picket close to a funeral. The church is mostly one family. What they didn't mention on the news story is they yell horrible things to the family members to where you can hear it inside of the services. They are not NICE people like the lady was trying to make herself out to be on there. godhatesfags.com is their website. They even have a pic of a casket saying "The are pieces of a solider."
The freedom fighters are the bikers that come and try to counterprotest. They usually rev their engines up so the family members won't hear the protesters yelling hurtful things. But sometimes the police tell the freedom fighters that they can't do that. The Westboro Church has a lawyer and she makes sure they get special escort treatment.
If you hear of this church wanting to picket somewhere near you there are some things you can do. First of all, call your senator and ask if there is a bill going up to prevent it and what the status of it is. If that doesn't work, counter-protest! Some people have put big plastic tents up as walls so that the poor families don't have to see those people. I highly doubt that any law would go through because it's unconstitutional to regulate freedom of assembly, but Jesus Christ could these people just have some freaking compassion? or maybe a little class? How tasteless could they be? The point is that there shouldn't even NEED to be any laws because who would protest at a funeral in the first place?

i was watching that on the news when they aired it , it made me sick thinking about all the stuff that has been going on those people fight for our country , for all of us not just themselfs. but anyway that is just my opinion. they should not have done that during the funerals.

That is just so messed up! I can not believe people would be soooo heartless! They were at the Eagle Remembrance Ceremony on the 8 of Feb! For those of you who don't know what that is, it is a Ceremony to honor the fallen that is held once a month on Ft. Campbell! They had signs that said " Thank God for IED's!" Now I live on Ft. Campbell and they shut down our main gate b/c it got so bad! There were a lot of protesters, but there were a lot of wives right there on the other side holding signs saying "We love our soldiers!" Just remember To pray for the soldiers and pray for those people too! It looks like they really need it!

I can't believe these horrible people. the only reason they have the right to stand out there and say those horrible things is because of these soldiers! They should be kissing the ground they walk on and singing songs of praise. How dare they?!!!!!!

There are already lots of laws regulating "freedom of assembly." One is that you have to notify the police department ahead of time. It should be regulated, it makes things safer for all of the parties. These people are just using a family's misfortune to get their radical views on TV. They are trying to get people against the war to join their group against gay people.
Voicing your opinion is okay, but I believe there is a time and place for protests. When a family is trying to peacefully put their son or daughter to rest is NOT one of them. Did anyone know that they were protesting King's funeral in February? The bills are not bad, some say no protesting within 30 feet from the funeral, others say none one hour before or after a funeral.
