| Estate Sale/secondary market addict Does anyone else just love going to estate sales, Goodwill stores, garage sales etc. I am lucky that my DH loves going as much as I do. I need someone to brag to about the treasures I find! Some treasures I keep, some I sell. I love vintage, antique stuff. Mostly, I have a blast finding things that are so inexpensive but so nice! |

| You and my sisters would get along so well.... LOL I'm just not the shopping type in general. I'm the type that goes in, gets what I need, come straight out. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I generally abhor most shopping as I find it oddly exhausting (?). BUT, I do love stopping by Goodwills and such, and finding little gems - so fun! I've kept some and sold some of it too. Lately, I haven't been scoring anything super cool, which bums me out...but every once in a while - bam! Yesterday, I did score this funky little "stationary box" for $4.99....see below. What have you scored lately??!!! Do tell!

| Well, now that you have asked! I got a hard rock maple table that is beautiful. I also got a piece of NC pottery at a Goodwill in Mi. I paid 6.99 for it, and I talked to the artist who made it- B.R. Hussey, and he told me it could fetch 800 or more at one of his auctions!. it is a figural piece That is a recent and excellent score. Most are much, much more modest. |

| I am not a collector, but do visit those places and shop CraigsList for interesting furniture pieces, especially anything made of teak. It is so fun to find a treasure that cannot be purchased in a store. I am always interested in the "finds" shared on the Home Sweet Home thread, and how members like capt_noonie and Wylie's Mom find bargain pieces and re-purpose them.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I LOVE looking for finds at yard sales and thrift stores! Over the years I have gotten some great things. I think the best thing I ever found was a TV stand that was awesome for $5.00😊 |

My house looks coordinated, but in truth, its so eclectic in where i found my stuff. I have an expensive, high-end store bought pieces next to goodwill, & resale store finds. It was alot easier to find things for my last house, as the house was over three times the size of my current home. I never had to worry if things would fit. Now size is everything and that severely limits my choices. Last weekend I bought two cabinets, one for my room from craigslist, and one for the basement from a resale store. I feel like I significantly overpaid on both, but they both fit the small space I have, and I've been looking for the past year. Now i feel like I have to go junking again this weekend for some great cheap finds, to even out the overall cost. How's that for reasoning? lol

| Oh I call it junking too. . I don't collect, or even resell but I am into up-cycling or repurposing items. My parents are auction buffs so anytime I am looking for something I tell my dad to keep an eye out, lol then he tends to go overboard and buys me multiple of the things when I am looking for just one. My daughter and I have recently repurposed 3 dressers and made some old doors into mirrors. Oh and we scored a huge 8' diameter windmill (just the fan portion) for a little of nothing that my SIL hung on her wall. The hunt is most of the fun!

| I live close to Forney and they used to have whole lots of estate sales there in some of the barns right down to entire libraries, built-in antique, carved mahogany shelving units included sometimes, and whole pubs including the entire bar and back bar unit. My sister and I used to go to estate sales nearby in Dallas - furthest we went was to one in McKinney, Texas and oh, yes, Decatur, Texas which is quite a long drive and we'd haunt antique shops, barns and even thrift stores and Goodwill for decorative pieces and old, jointed teddy bears. old dolls. We even went through a Disneyana short-lived phase and collected some of that. We've found Steiffs, Sasha dolls, Merrythought teddies and Ideal Playpal dolls, unique foreign dolls. Found several wonderful old pieces of furniture, oil paintings, accessories. What fun that was. And books - boy, I collected old books by the shelf-full.

| I love collecting old fountain pens. My very first yard sale I saw no pens at all. I asked the lady if she had any pens and she said oh yeah...they are inside. She brought out a small box with all kinds of pen parts and what not. But in the mix was an old Parker fountain pen! My first found gem. I don't resell them...I just love, love them!

| I go around to a lot of the local good will stores, lately I have been up cycling infant and toddler dresses into clothing for Lola, I keep an eye out for end tables that can be made into dog beds, but have not seen those lately. I am now addicted to a Facebook page for my county where people list furniture the bought and either painted or repurposed I just scored a beautiful custom colored dresser that I am using in my dinning room as a buffet, but since I sew in my dinning room it's stocked with a lot of my sewing supplies. it is getting harder and harder to score good furniture since there seems to be a ton of people painting the pieces. and for the prices they charge it obvious they did not pay much

| I love vintage stuff. Once we get back to MI, we will start with the estate sales again. I got really lucky with purses last year. I found three purses that were like new that retailed for over 100 each. I paid 6 each. I gave one to DD, and she loves it. I got an textured ivory on ivory Ethan Allen loveseat last year for 350. not a spot on it! I do sell stuff online too. I'm lucky my DH loves it too. Last edited by dinkster; 04-23-2015 at 03:54 PM. |
